| Parody Written by: | Red Ant |
My grandmother died at 88 in October, but I hadn't seen her in over 6 years because my aunt moved her out of state to a retirement home because of Altzheimers disease. Even people who knew her for 50 years+ stopped calling because she didn't remember them. You will notice alot of TOS here, not for lack of effort, but because this song is alot like my parody, although this more alternate lyrics than a parody. Dedicated to all who have lost loved ones from horrible diseases and hope, as I do, that one day they will find a cure.
When you're talking to yourself
At the retirement home
You can't look out for yourself
You're now in this world alone...alone
So nobody ever told you lady
How it was going to be
So what'll happen to you lady
Get better eventually
Old at heart and yes I am 88
And not too old to let life break my heart
Young at heart but it's getting much to late
To find ourselves so far apart
I don't know how I'm supposed
To find you lately
When my dads sis took you away from me
I know that you never said you didn't need me
When that took everything
Said that took everything from you
Young at heart and it makes me frustrate
When no one I know can seem to help you now
Old at heart but I must accept her fate
If she's to find her own way out
Still talking to herself
At the retirement home...alone
So nobody ever told you lady
How it was going to be
So what'll happen to you lady
Get better eventually
When they find out all the reasons
Maybe the'll find a medical way
Perhaps a cure someday
With all the changing seasons in our lives'
Maybe they'll get succeed next time
And now that you've been broken down
And forgotten all around
You're back down on the ground
And you don't talk so loud
And you don't walk so proud
Any more, and what for
Well I was hoping for a miracle
So many times in my own home
You're out there on your own, drifting all alone
And it does show, limited time
I can read between the lines
'Cause I saw the end was geting closer
And my thoughts they made me sigh
Seems everyone we've ever known here
I know it has to end but why?
They'll never be anyone to replace you
But I will still remember you, for life, all my life
Without you
I knew the end was geting closer
And I wished that you wouldn't die
And I knew it was inevitable
Still couldn't help but cry..

I'm sorry I don't know the original song, but I think you have written a tribute with alot of feeling, that your grandmother would appreciate.
Thank you Royce, by the way it has run time of over 9 minutes and is the longest song on Use Your Illusion 2 ( but about 4 minutes of solos). BTW I usually rate my own parodies, once, and not always 555 either, but in this case I will let the song rate itself. There are some minor pacing problems, and if you're ever seen my Netzero/Dial up parody, I got disconnected a few times and had to rush to type this because it crashes sometimes. The lines repeated from the original fit her perfectly by coincidence as well because she did break her hip and was a loud and proud woman once ( long before I was born), so I didn't change them.
I think it's a good thing to do a serious "parody" now and then (I could list a number of reasons for it and I really oughta do it more often myself). This reads great as a tribute. Nice to see that side of you Red Ant. As for a cure it would (probably) also be useful to healthy people and I fear that such a thing would be bigger on the black market than for those who needs it the most, an exam drug, a remember-the-car-key and reading glasses drug etc. (Did you know that those who invented the contraceptive pill meant it to be used by married Catholic women so that they wouldn't have to have more than 4-5 kids and that they were shocked when the biggest consumer group turned out to be unmarried people?). I guess that for every invention there's at least one surprise us. But I'm ranting. Over and out.
