| Parody Song Title: | "Thank You Tolkien" |
| Parody Written by: | Arwen |
Sometimes I examine my life, and worry that I'm a bit too caught up in the Lord of the Rings. I wonder if perhaps I should try something new. But then I realize it's never going to happen...so I just stop worrying about it.
How 'bout getting off of this current obsession
How 'bout stopping writing Middle Earth songs
How 'bout I just find me a brand new muse
How 'bout facing facts, it's just no use
Thank you Aragorn
Thank you Frodo
Thank you Mr. Tolkien
Thank you Boromir
Thank you Legolas
Thank you Merry and Pippen
How 'bout me dreaming about Harry Potter
How 'bout me enjoying a new show—how strange!
How 'bout how good Depp was in that Pirate movie
How 'bout knowing I am not gonna change
Thank you Saruman
Thank you Wormtonge
Thank you Smeagol and Gollum
Thank you Ringwraiths
Thank you Uruk-hai
Thank you, thank you Sauron
The moment I got into it
Was the moment I got more than I could handle
The moment I move on from it
Is the moment I will frown
How 'bout no longer checking all the "Rings" sites
How 'bout devoting more time to Strong Bad
How 'bout unabashedly checking new pages
How 'bout no way, the New Line site's too rad
Thank you Hobbiton
Thank you Isengard
Thank you all of Middle Earth
Thank you Edoras
Thank you Dead Marshes
Thank you, thank you Mordor
Yeah yeah
Ahh ohhh
Ahhh oh oh
Ahhh oh ohhhhhh
Yeah yeah

Oh...and I actually DO like other movies...and websites, too...they apparently just don't inspire me lyrically the way Middle Earth does.

Arwen, I don't know this song, but I like your writing - since I don't know the tune, I didn't vote, but your wordsmithing looks excellent.
No problem...it's kind of an obscure song...but the lyrics were spilling into my head on the drive home last night, demanding to be submitted. thanks for the post, anyway!!
P.S. I'm especially tickled that you used "wordsmithing" in a sentence. I'm a fan of words...and "wordsmithing" is an awesome one!
Thank you Arwen.
No really...thank YOU, Pickle...
I like this one because it's about a LOTR obsession, rather than being about LOTR itself. So, for me anyway, it's more appealing. Good job.
Thanks, Spaff...I really AM trying to broaden my horizens...but it's slow going...hehe.
I HATE that you can't undo a post...especially when you click submit at the very same time that you realize you wrote out the word "horizens." Ugh. Make that e an o. I really do know how to spell...I promise.
Arwen, Could be worse, just don't ever get "OCD" (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder). Easier said than done...Yeah, hate to hit that "Submit" button just as I'm spotting a mis-spelling. But you corrected it before anyone else caught it. I consider that a clean "save" and will petition to have your "permanent record" expunged in this matter. I'm really just stalling so I don't have to listen to that Liz Phair cut, but there's no way around it....I'll just put my little toe in a bit here.....YOW!! Later...
Paul...sometimes I worry that I do have OCD...like a minor case...where I can still be gorgeous and charming...but spend all my free time writing songs about the people of middle earth...hmmm...but then I think...wait...if I'm gorgeous and charming, who cares if I'm a little bit psycho...right? Right? ; )
Arwen - OCD? well, right...well, right...well, right...well, right...Anyway, I try to alternate my obsessions to give me a little variety. The hand-washing thing really was a bitch though but it's not happening now. Almost two weeks, though, can really turn your paws into a mess. Losing the job was only a FRACTION of what was going on but it was the straw that definitely put the tweak to my beak. But leaving the job behind was the actual cure, it appears, so it was for the best. So you hereby given permission to remain gorgeous and charming and still write songs about middle-earth people.
Oh Paul...thank you! I appreciate your support...although as of late, I haven't been inspired in the LOTR sense...at least not lyrically. It's kind of weird. I know that a lot of people around here have an idea for a parody...and then they work and plan and push the pencil until the parody they want to write comes out...but I'm usually driving along...or at my desk...and a line or two will come to me. About some random thing. Or a chorus...and then I build around that...At least the ones I submit are that way. I parody my every day life all the time for the people around me...but how boring would that be for all of you? Anyway...not a lot of LOTR stuff finding its way into my cluttered brain these days...hmmm...I guess I'll have to settle for gorgeous and charming. ; ) I'm sure I'll get my second/third/fourth (who's counting?) LOTR wind eventually...
Arwen, when I'm rolling it goes both ways, basic story-line and then detail sometimes, but more often a line will pop into my head and I start shuffling thru the "archive" upstairs for a song that line would fit into and then try to build that part up until it is at least done to a draft level. Then try and make the rest of the song happen. Lately not much happening on a creative level upstairs beyond a few lines I've come up with and jotted down as "possibilities". Back in L.A. I think I'll be more centered about completing things.
See, I can't do that. I have to get it over with. Once I have some inspiration, I stop what I'm doing and finish the parody...or it might elude me later.
Arwen - Well, that's always PREFERRED, but doesn't always happen. Have to do what I can when I can. Had a streak where I would get an idea and, "bingo!" 25-30 minutes later a finished, hand-written parody ready to be transcribed into a PC word-doc and pasted into submission on the site. Lately, no-go...
how can anyone not know this song????? wasn't it all over the radio in late 1998??
That's what I thought, Jim...but apparently...we were in some other state of pop culture immersion than the rest of the team...
To Jim: I know the song very well. It was a big hit in late 1998/early 1999; I remember hearing it quite a bit then.
To Arwen: Great parody; I really liked it. I give it a perfect score.

Well, thanks, Serafina! I really appreciate it!
Um...okay...83 years after I posted this song, I'm re-reading it...and I can't believe I spelled Pippin wrong. Seriously. I'm so annoyed with myself now...
I was listening to Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie on my PC, and realised that somewhere on amiright Thank u was parodied. So I search and find one of the best Alanis parodies on the site! 5's all round from me.
Well thank you VERY very much, Blethar! I really appreciate it!
Thank you Arwen For your parodies They're always good for a laugh Thank you AmIRight For letting me meet Arwen, JohnnyD and Spaff... Oh, and P.S. 555!
Well now I'm mad, because I had that in prose form as a parody to your parody. Whatever.
Don't worry about it, Ash...I have yet to figure out how to master the lyrical line breaks in comments...it never works for me. On my "Bad Conjugation" parody we have a full on discussion about it...people giving me instructions...blah...it never works. HOWEVER...on a lighter note...I'd like to say thanks for the vote...and you know, I've always had my suspicions...but now I'm certain...you really DO kick ass!!! Thanks!!
