Original Song Title:

"Ironic"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Alanis Morissette

Parody Song Title:

"Atomic"

Parody Written by:

Ethan Mawyer

The Lyrics

I woke up at five to eight
And this is not a good way to start the day
Must memorize the elements names
It's enough to drive a Buddhist monk insane
30's the atomic code for zinc

Breathe in eight, which oxygen
36 might, make the man of steel cringe
And 79 will make gold diggers grin
And 47 is silver

Number eighty eight was found by Curies
And seventeen's great it keeps pools algae free
And number 25 is manganese
78 is what you want your album to be
And 30's the atomic code for zinc

28 is like Kroeger's band
And 29 is in coins in the sand
13 is just fine for a food holding can
As numbers go up, they're bigger

Well five has a funny name it rhymes with what means fool
78 sounds like the place that made us say freedom fries
And nine's in important paste for cleaning your mouth if
You don't use fluorine for long your teeth just might fall out
Of your face

A ranting man could use some number three
Thirty three in wine makes you push up dasies
Number eighty is cool it helps you measure the heat
And without number six it seems
That all living things just wouldn't be
And thirty's the atomic code for zinc
I wish I had mnemonic devices for all these

I can't wait 'til this test is done
I want free time I can use to have fun
It should be a crime to make us learn each one
He should've taught us better

Well five has a funny name it rhymes with what means fool
And nine's in important paste for cleaning your mouth
Cleaning your mouth

As a former chem major, Ioved this. I see someone is giving everyone 1's this morning, but this was clever. I also note that you are about to join the 300 club. I know what that means. We have an original song that we perform called "Laboratory Widow". It's about the wife of a chemist moaning about how her hubby is always in the lab doing "diakinesis, electrofloresis, distilling and filling, titration", etc, and how he's leaving her P-orbitals only half-filled. Big laughs if you play to a mensa crowd.

thanks rick... maybe i should include a key of what the elements in here are that might not be completely clear: 36 - krypton; 79 - gold; 88 - radium ; 17 - chlorine ; 78 - platinum; 28 - nickel; 29 - copper; 13 - aluminum; francium is 87 not 78 i got kinda dyslexic there; 9 - flourine; 3 - lithium; 33 - arsenic; 80 - mercury; 6 - carbon

What does joing the 300 club mean? does it mean people will stop ignoring my parodies for no reason whatsoever? Anyway 300 is a long way away the way i'm going i probably won't get that for at least a month unless the voters encourage me to write more which hasn't been happening.

Ethan, I like your stuff (this one especially) and am not just saying that just because you feel ignored. Sometimes I feel the same way while playing flute at open mics and some Average Joe with a funky hat and a few cool-looking wooden flutes who doesn't play all that well gets more attention. I've tried not to ask people that question (unfortunately, Rick hears it far more than he'd like) because then I'll think that they feel they have to say something nice just because they understand how I feel but they probably really mean it but then I wonder... Then you start to think too much! As far as your parodies go, try to realize that there may be no GOOD reason, but the song may be long (remember--short attention spans) or people don't know it (I've done songs that were on the top 10 in the 60s or 70s and have gotten DKTOS's) or that there are SO MANY PARODIES, SO LITTLE TIME that it's hard to read and comment on everything, even though we'd like to (while avoiding certain people with the initials AM). And you're written so many, where does one start? If you love to write, don't stop! End of soapbox. Good luck!

Well Ethan, maybe I should thank you for being the catalyst that is introducing me to so much new music. Oh! Wait! Milkshake. Maybe not... ;-)
