The Lyrics

Pretty self-explanatory really... and written before the 21st too! Not that anybody's going to have a go at me if we all DO go kaboom anyway...

I learnt something with this parody: just because an OS has the perfect TITLE doesn't mean it's the perfect SONG to use. This one is a bit of a 'mare when it comes to pacing! Goes on a long time too... you may detect that sentiment towards the end of my effort ;^)

And here's a link to the original song. If you don't know it, you might get a headache trying to follow my words to it - I know I got one writing the thing..!

We’re screwed, it says so on YouTube
Smashed to goo by Nibiru
And we should all be quite afraid
Big flaming ball of sun, on December-two-one
Big planet called X, gonna be a train wreck
Bigger rock than Pluto, whoops, oh no
Start cryin’ ‘cos the Mayans got it right well maybe
Said we’d be dead when their calendar ran out
And there isn’t any doubt very plain to see
They were quite advanced because they knew a thing or two about astro-no-my
Ev’ry day it’s getting closer where is it now?
‘Cause I still can’t see it… Oh! Wow!
YouTube video, Photoshopped a horror show and now we know
We are bad, God is mad
It’s all our own fault, planet’s on a re-volt
‘Quickly come and join us’ all the God-recruiters say – hey!
‘And maybe we can fix it with a last-ditch mass pray
‘Fore we’re blown away…’

It’s the end of the world and you know it
All those clips on the web seem to show it
It’s the end of the world soon although it… still looks just fine

Gonna get all destroyed
‘Cos we’re passing through The Void
Earth will lose control lined up with our black hole
Milky Way’s got a whopper, dead centre, heart-stopper
Then we’ll be a sinking ship, gonna cause a polar flip
All alarm-y big tsunamis
Earthquakes, crust breaks
Planet in meltdown uh-oh…
Theory’s Mayan – ‘nother one
Why are they no fun?
Stressing and depressing us and making people cry
Don’t look on the bright side, it’s all very certified
You’re gon-na die

It’s the end of the world and you know it
‘Cos the Mayans did maths just to show it
It’s the end of the world or you know it… could be just fine
(Still just fine…)

It’s the end of the world and you know it (Those Mayans are such grumpy bums)
Not the end of the world that we know it (I hope they just messed up their sums)
When the end of the world comes let’s show it (And Armageddon never comes)
A real good time!

And now they took another look in the Mayan dating book
Maybe check what they miss
Oh wait, what’s this?
Contradict themselves – goes on after twenty-twelve!
It could be a rebirth, not a dead earth
Don’t wanna look like dummies in a thousand years… right? Right!

It’s the end of the world and you know it (I’m kind of bored with all this doom)
Doesn’t mean in the way that you know it (But glad we might not go kaboom)
Just depends on how you choose to show it (Have I spent too long in my room?)
We’ll all be fine

It’s the end of the world? We don’t know it
Even Mayans and NASA don’t know it
If the end of the world comes, well blow it…. We won’t be fine

It’s the end of the world, don’t you know it? (I know where I’ve been going wrong)
Is the end of the world as we know it? (Should not watch YouTube all day long…)
When the end of the world comes we’ll know it (Perhaps we should just end this song?)
We still got time…

It’s the end of the world and you know it (This damn song just goes on and on)
Doesn’t mean in the way that you know it (I can’t believe I’m still not done)
Either end of the world or you know it (I swear this is the final one)
Could be just fine

Excellent parody. This is a difficult song, but you finished it really well. May the Cataclysm be with you.

Facing the end with humor...only way to go...fav. line.."Don't wanna look like dummies in a 1000 years"

This OS's definitely up there with the 'Big 7' in difficulty (and length!) and you managed it wonderfully. Heaps o' horrific imagery and humor in this fine 'pocalypto calypso, Wendy!

555 just for an attempt on this song and then you did great with it. I hope you get lots of rave reviews on this to enjoy - even if just for the next 4 days.

I just knew someone had to do this song for the end of the world predictions. . .personal favorite among R.E.M.'s artistry:)

555 for creativity! The calendar is off anyway so wrong date AND... it only speaks of the end of this long cycle, NOT the end of the world. Neither is Armageddon... sigh...

oh wow how did you do it? Here's some 5's I've gotta go take some headache pills...

I see what you mean, Wendy. The frantic pace is difficult to keep up with and it seems to go on forever, but a great way to end it (the song, not the world). 555s for creativity and degree of difficulty. The end of the world is unlikely until the end of the sun, but as for the end of humanity, the prognosis is not good. What would those Mayans know anyway? They played a form of soccer where the winner gets sacrificed, because if they didn't spill lots of blood the sun wouldn't come up. That's how much they knew about astronomy. Oh yeah, let's learn what we don't know from them!

This was fabulous. I enjoyed every single line. But especially liked the ending lines and 'this damn song just goes on and on'. :)

Thank you all for the lovely comments - much appreciated. I'm definitely not the first to parody this one; many others have done some amazing jobs on it - Below Average Dave and Kristof Robertson to name but two. :^)

@Below Average Dave: ...And it may as well as have been me... I don't mind being predictable sometimes :^D

@Lifeliver: they did, didn't they? And, if I recall they weren't allowed to use their feet, head or hands to hit the ball - just their hips and torso. 'Cause the game just wasn't difficult enough already, I guess..!

Funniest parody on this subject to this date

A masterwork. When we talk about the "Big Seven" parody-master-conferring OS's, I think this one should be included, and Bohemian Rhapsody should be dumped. I've done BH three times -- much, much easier than this
