Song Parodies -> Urkel Reigns
| Original Song Title: | "Purple Rain" |
| Original Performer: | Prince |
| Parody Song Title: | "Urkel Reigns" |
| Parody Written by: | Mikey Squirrel |
I saw him every time on Family Matters
Playing that wacky next-door neighbor geek
Always bugging Carl as he got fatter
He'd laugh and snort and go crazy every single week
Chorus:
Urkel reigns, Urkel reigns
Urkel reigns, Urkel reigns
Urkel reigns, Urkel reigns
I seen all the geeks on T.V. and that Urkel reigns
And now I see him in syndication
Where I can watch him again and again, yea
Yes, he used to be a big sensation
It's such a shame that this show had to end
(Chorus)
Yes, I know, I know, I know that he's clumsy
He would always break something and say, "Did I do that?'
He always had suspenders, with his pants hiked up too far
And those crazy glasses, you gotta love him, Steven Urkel reigns
(Chorus)
Playing that wacky next-door neighbor geek
Always bugging Carl as he got fatter
He'd laugh and snort and go crazy every single week
Chorus:
Urkel reigns, Urkel reigns
Urkel reigns, Urkel reigns
Urkel reigns, Urkel reigns
I seen all the geeks on T.V. and that Urkel reigns
And now I see him in syndication
Where I can watch him again and again, yea
Yes, he used to be a big sensation

(Chorus)
Yes, I know, I know, I know that he's clumsy
He would always break something and say, "Did I do that?'
He always had suspenders, with his pants hiked up too far
And those crazy glasses, you gotta love him, Steven Urkel reigns
(Chorus)

I still watch reruns of Family Matters, too. It had such a great cast. Jaleel White was cute when he wasn't being nerdy and he was a natural born comedian.
I contemplated voting 111 and then comment: "Did I do THAT?!" but that would have been mean. 5s.
I'm not a fan of parodies that insert chorus, but since this was one of your earlier works and since it's about a TV show that I used to love (The first African-American nerd... Everybody else refers to nerds as skinny white boys). This brought me back to my childhood so good work here Mikey.

Nerdacious - even his name screams nerd. The line "Did I do that?" was funny the first few times it was used but I think it got over used which detracted from the show. You could just about telegraph it before it was said much the same as one could telegraph "He's dead, Jim". But it had originality as Matt put it about Urkel being "The first African-American nerd". even though the idea for the show was solid and original I was not a huge fan of it. I guess it is how I percieve the taste of humor. However I do like your parody quite well even with the inserted "Chorus" refrains. Plenty of the very early amiright parodies used the plug "Chorus". I believe the site has grown out of that now and I for one have taken to varying all of my choruses.

(ABC4) I'm a proponent of changed choruses, but I don't fault this parody on that element (although it could have been done). It's just a clever title sub that could have used a bit more oomph (does anyone outside of the U.S. know Urkel?)
Ah, I see Peter does. Rhetorical question answered.
(ABC4-U) To answer Agri's question again, I have barely heard of Urkel. Thus into this parody, I could not get.
Either Prince or his record label has seen fit to remove every original Prince recording of this song from the 'net. The video link on that site goes to some dude's dog... anyway, I remember Family Matters and enjoyed the parody, Mike. 5s
Hmmm Mikey. I know Urkel well, but I do think this parody was a bit of a lightweight for you. Though I understand it's an older piece and all, I don't think this was given a full effort like the effort I see in most your work.
