The Lyrics

There's riots on the street
Shias and the Sunnis too
People yelling hate and death
seems they've run away from zoo
There are amputations,
there are cuttings off the heads
There's a lot of people dyin'
there are lashings till you're dead
Don't feel like Satan,
but I am to them
So I try to shut up
any way I can.

Keep on rockin' in unfree world,
Keep on rockin' in unfree world
Keep on rockin' in unfree world,
Keep on rockin' in unfree world.

I hear the jackboots in the night
I see a swastika on flag
Under an old street light
I hear the nighsticks beat and whack
Now they haul a man away,
and he's gone to certain death
They cannot stand free thinking
and the unshackled breath
There's one more victim
of a regime that's depraved
Never get live in freedom,
buried in unmarked grave.

Keep on rockin' in unfree world,
Keep on rockin' in unfree world
Keep on rockin' in unfree world,
Keep on rockin' in unfree world.

They have a thousand points of lies
For the working class man
They got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
They have the GULAG system
and the work like slaves
They have barbed wire
and they have mass graves
Got a sickle and the hammer,
and the red-starred flag
Got wars to wage,
ad Karl Marx they brag -

Keep on rockin' in unfree world,
Keep on rockin' in unfree world
Keep on rockin' in unfree world,
Keep on rockin' in unfree world.

Good on pacing and obviously serious but a bit confusing without an intro. Here's my interpretation: The first verse is about the current Middle East and the last about current Russia. The middle one - 1940s Germany?? Rock wasn't invented then, hence the double question mark. 534.

Susanna, I hate to say this, but this parody is flawed in many ways. To begin with, it's out of chronological order even if you had to match lyrics that way. It would be Nazi Germany first (if you ignore birth of communism), then postwar USSR, and then current sectarian violence in the ME. Also, in all three scenarios not all people are affected. In Nazi Germany, as long as you had German blood and your papers were in order, then life was better. Hitler got rid of the Communists, restored order, eliminated unemployment, rebuilt the armed forces, developed advanced technology like television and Kdf Wagen, continued on the Autobahns from Weimar, and made Germans feel good with mass rallies, state sponsored entertainment, rewards for motherhood, marriage, and being a soldier. Until 1943, Germany was largely not bombed and was winning. People ate great in outdoor cafes reading the paper. Same for Soviet Russia which lifted up the Communist Ideal Man (farmer and worker) who was equally rewarded with incentive programs. Party members, just like Nazi Germany, got special benefits. And even in ISIS and other terror groups, the faithful are rewarded with brides, weapons, power. As Peter said, there was no Rock in the 1940s. I accidentally hit 333 when this should have been 533. My sincere apologies.

I judge a society by how it treats those who simply wish to be left alone, who are happy to let the parade pass them by. It is possible to have affordable housing, full employment, new cars, and quality entertainment without government, let alone totalitarian government. I don't know the original song, so I can't judge on that basis. But the descriptions of the politics are quite sound. Security code HW8. Rob, do you remember a low-end German revolver by that designation?

This was actually a fifteen-minute verbal vomit of mine. I was humming the original song, and thought how would "Rocking in Unfree World" sound. The first stanza is trivial, and refers to Islamosphere and how the Bronze Age jurisprudence is applied to the 20th century and how they hate individual freedom. The second stanza refers to the Nazis, but could apply to any Militaristic regimes and juntas. Fortunately they are out of vogue today. The third refers, of course, to Communism and other forms of socialism and ideology-based tyrannies. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

The common thread here is all three belief systems threatened or threaten Finland
Rob Arndt - October 14, 2015 - Report this comment
Nor exactly true CML. The Soviets did under communism, but Finland was open co-belligerant with Nazi Germany and had Germany won it would have been on good terms with Finland. ISIS and radical Islam is a threat to Europe, but although threatening an all-out war with the "Crusader Infidels" is in no position to move north when it has to fight the West, Syria, Iraq, Turkey, the Kurds, and Shia enemies supplying troops and arms. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, and Jordan are also against ISIS as is Israel. Until they secure the ME, they cannot hope to conquer Europe which has ultra-modern aircraft, naval vessels, armor, artillery, missiles, and professional troops and special forces. Finland is not in any real danger. Any returning Finn radicals will be arrested, just as in the rest of Europe and the US.

Of course you're right Rob. You cant be fighting The Nazis and the Red Army at the same time. How could I not know that? Where was my head at? ............. Oh now I remember, my head was a little be-fogged after my heart received a four artery overhaul five days previous. I'm feeling sharper now ............... BTW, that wasn't sarcasm -- I actually had a quadruple bypass on Thursday the Ninth. And believe it or not, I'm already got a parody in my head about it

Hope you recover CML. My mom had that surgery. It was hard on the entire family, so I hope you have support. And regarding history, I find it amazing that Finland avoided the Soviet Steamroller in 1945 simply because Stalin and the Red Army were in such a hurry to reach Berlin at all cost. German pockets were also bypassed...

I'm a fitness fanatic, so my body was in really good shape for my age. Plus, the situation was discovered thru an angiogram before any sort of heart attack weakened my heart. I went to the hospital to get what I thought would be an angioplasty; then they discovered a much more dire situation, so they invited me to stick around for a couple of days (lol) These two factors have allowed me to have a very easy recovery as these things go
