| Parody Song Title: | "The Music Got Me" |
| Parody Written by: | MarthaDTox |
I went into banking when I first left school
My friends they all thought it was just so uncool
my father insisted there was no other way
but the music had got me and I just had to play
the music had got me and I just had to play
With an old Peavey amp and a Gibson Les Paul
I went gigging at weekends in pubs and town halls
where your feet stick to the carpet and the stage is too small
but the music had got me I was havin a ball
the music had got me I was havin a ball
At the bank I was dealing in options and swaps
It was doing my head in I was ready to drop
I had to go pro and do Top of the Pops
cos the music had got me I was ready to rock
the music had got me I was ready to rock
We found a good agent and he got us a deal
3 albums to start with - it didn't seemed real
our first single charted - we were head over heels
the music had got me you must know how it feels
the music had got me you must know how it feels
our first album bombed and we felt really down
no royalty checks in the post to be found
just the bill from the studio for thousands of pounds
the music had got me flat broke on the ground
the music had got me flat broke on the ground
and those bills just kept coming we were down on our knees
for posters and flyers and ads on TV
and post modern videos that no one would see
the music had got me but it was not meant to be
the music had got me but it was not meant to be
they exported albums to the back of beyond
and charged us the freight we felt totally conned
We were a just tax loss it finally dawned
the music had got me but my guitar was pawned
the music had got me but my guitar was pawned
and there was no way out they made that so clear
exclusivity clauses that lasted for years
which gave options to them but made ours disappear
the music had got me hittin the beer
the music had got me hittin the beer
if you want to play music now hear what I say
don't give up the day job it just doesn't pay

That was excellent. Depressing, but excellent.
what phil said. sad thing is, it's not far from the truth
You just came on here, but you intrigue me. I feel a real "L.A." vibe from you. Am I Right? And as the Beatle expert here, you are hitting home with the Lennon and the Lehrer. I am surprised that you missed the rhyme on the first verse here. (school/cool/-way?) You are among nitpickers. But I'm interested to see what you do next.
Ricxk I was not even consciously aware of the rhyme point .. the first line came into my head when I was listening to the Lennon and the rest followed from that and I really wanted the hook line of that first verse... but many thanks for the comments
(ABC) ok.....
(ABC) It's neat seeing all these oldie-moldies dusted off and given another chance at viewing. MarthaD, you are another one that came out shooting with both barrels and have been a fine contributor since then. 545
coming from the Simon Callow of amiright that is praise indeed! many thanks for the cdomments Ag!
(ABC) Kinda depressing. Not bad, though.
(ABC) Rick mentioned Lehrer. As in Tom Lehrer? I just listened to his 'Evening Wasted With' album two days ago! As for your parody, it definitely got better towards the end.
the very same Lehrer!
(ABC "T") Sad, but well done, Martha.
(ABC) Well done.
ABCs...good work, Martha.
(ABc0 DKTOS, but good luck
The music got me so I had to vote!
I'm with Jeff, the original is one of my fave depressive state songs! Well done!
Funnily enough, I've still got a recording of me playing/singing this on one of my CDs in the car...
(ABC) Quite impressive.
(ABC) Funny, I only know Marianne faithful version of this! :-O
First verse makes me think of: "And all my friends turned out to be insurance salesmen..." :-)

DKTOS, but based I the free-read, I also agree with Phil.
There's so much feeling put into this one it makes me guess it's really based on real experiences, and I don't mind the extra verses or the missed rhyme. Great song here Martha!
