My ex-husband lives in Mare-land
In Mare-land, just outside of Washington, DC
But, he still lives really near to me
And, that’s why I changed the lock on my front door

California boy in ol’ Mare-land; we came here for his new job
And I grew up on Long Island; and how I love New York
And, together here in Mare-land, it all just fell apart
No squabbles now for me anymore
No in-laws bothering me

My ex-husband lives in Mare-land
And, Mare-land is a place I also want to be
But he truly rents right near my townhouse
And, that is why I don’t open my front door

I ’member our two story Cape Code, where we lived in L.A.
And though it was warm out there, on the east coast I prefer to live
My incremental irritation, is now suddenly gone
Because I now live all by myself
Glad and worry free

My ex-husband lives in Mare-land
And, Mare-land is where we both have chosen to be
Yes my ex-husband lives in Mare-land
And, you see he can no longer annoy or offend

Most folks think I’m lyin’
And, it is well-known that I cried
But, I love good ol’ Washington DC
