Song Parodies -> "Electric Avenue (Thanks For Nothing, JACK!)"

Original Song Title:

"Electric Avenue"

Original Performer:

Eddy Grant

Parody Song Title:

"Electric Avenue (Thanks For Nothing, JACK!)"

Parody Written by:

the_conqueror_of_parodies

The Lyrics

Jack Wilson dared 'everyone' to do a parody of 'Electric Avenue'. I couldn't think of a good title, thus I wrote the apparantly-compulsory writer's block parody instead.
Oy!

Vey!

Now in my mind there are bases
For, for a lot of par'dies to write
But when it comes to Eddy Grant
There is no ideas coming tonight

Oh no, I don't know how to rip 'Electric Avenue'
It makes want to cry-a
Dang, no idea how to do 'Electric Avenue'
I think my brain just died-a

Strainin' my brain like that Einstein
Can't come up with anything good
Won't be the best par'dy of mine
Woudn't bet on that if I could
No thoughts!

No ideas come to rip 'Electric Avenue'
Can't do one 'bout Transformers
Jack, dared ev'ryone to rip 'Electric Avenue'
Can't write one about Goombas

So crap
So whack
Oh, crap
I'm cracked

Oh man, cannot turn it into 'Dyspeptic Avenue'
'Cause it's been done before-a
Oh, at least think I it has, but can't recall by who
Don't matter anymore-a

Who is to blame for this par'dy?
Which makes no sense, none at all
I say his name is Jack Wilson
That kid has sure got lots of gall!

Oh boy, he challenged me to rip 'Electric Avenue'
But that was not enough-a
So, he got us ALL to rip 'Electric Avenue'
And boy, if it ain't tough-a!

Oooh, stay up all night
Think of ideas
None come to mind, so
I write this mess!

Man it is so hard to rip 'Electric Avenue'
It's straining on my brain-a
There is no point in ripping 'Electric Avenue'
It will not give me fame-a

I know it's bad
And also sad
That I couldn't think
Of a decent idea

So, this is how I will rip 'Electric Avenue'
I know it makes so sense-a
But that's all I came up for 'Electric Avenue'
Soooo bad
(So please don't call me dense-a)
Read it if you have time
(My total crap rip of 'Electric Avenue')
Read it if you care
(If you don't I won't blame ya)
(This song I cannot do)...
NOT my best, I know...better than most of my early ones, but not good compared to my recent works...but that's a matter of opinion...

Yup, Jack, your frustration shows here. I have no clue what to do with it, either.

I love the "before-a" effect you put on the lines. . .writers block is what got me second place in the "Frank Sinatra" round , so it's a solid topic when you can't think of anything to write. . .you see I'm not in the request thread at the moment--so I don't have to parody that one. . .good job.

I've already parodied "Electric Avenue" (http://www.amiright.com/parody/80s/eddygrant7.shtml). Does that count?

I liked the the various subs for "higher", but yeah, this isn't your best, T-COP.

SOTM - If you're still looking for an OS to do a Transformers parody too I may suggest an 80s rap/reggae song called "Informer" by a one hit wonder artist called Snow. You may be too young to remember it but I'd say it's the second most hated rap hit of all times (after "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice) which means all of us old farts here know it all to well and will welcome a good trashing of it. :-)

(SOTM) "Can't come up with anything good" is a LIE--I think it was creative and a nice stab at a difficult OS.

I agree that this definitely isn't one of your better efforts... not sure what else to say. Sorry.

(SOTM) - Kinda stream-of-consciousness riffing here.

(SOTM) yeah, I dunno about SOTM-worthy, bobpie - a writer's block parody would have to have a whole new take on that topic to score points - but I sympathise with your plight trying to parody this OS - 555

SOTM- I had one for this song called "Mushy Doggy Poo" but this one was really funny and well done. I love parodies that chronicle the frustration of writing parodies.
