Song Parodies -> Ladies Day
| Original Song Title: | "9 to 5" |
| Original Performer: | Dolly Parton |
| Parody Song Title: | "Ladies Day" |
| Parody Written by: | Stuart McArthur |
Here in Australia, the Racing fraternity patronises its women members by declaring a Ladies day, where they get special treatment. Do they have those days over there? Do they have Datsun Celicas over there? (ladies cars)
She jumps outta bed, stumbles to the kitchen
cooks his breakfast, full of nutrition
brings it to her husband on a tray
it's a thankless task but she don't mind it, coz
Sunday's coming and she's excited
Those Racing gents have named it Ladies Day
Yes it's Ladies Day,
way to make the ladies happy
give the mums a break
from those filthy dirty nappies
give 'em half a day
off their darning and their mending
but that's not to say it's
not a trifle condescending
She rings her galpals - they're all giggles - they
love the way their man's butt wiggles
they're hoping that the barman is a spunk!
they jump into their Datsun Celicas
an ounce of luck, they'll see a male streaker, just
hope those moselles don't get them too drunk
Yes it's Ladies Day,
way to make the ladies mellow
they've forgotten their horse
but they think he's wearing yellow
hope they back a winner
would be such a perfect ending
to their lovely outing
though a trifle condescending
cooks his breakfast, full of nutrition
brings it to her husband on a tray
it's a thankless task but she don't mind it, coz
Sunday's coming and she's excited
Those Racing gents have named it Ladies Day
Yes it's Ladies Day,
way to make the ladies happy
give the mums a break
from those filthy dirty nappies
give 'em half a day
off their darning and their mending
but that's not to say it's
not a trifle condescending
She rings her galpals - they're all giggles - they
love the way their man's butt wiggles
they're hoping that the barman is a spunk!
they jump into their Datsun Celicas
an ounce of luck, they'll see a male streaker, just
hope those moselles don't get them too drunk
Yes it's Ladies Day,
way to make the ladies mellow
they've forgotten their horse
but they think he's wearing yellow
hope they back a winner
would be such a perfect ending
to their lovely outing
though a trifle condescending

Good goin'....Right on track here, Stuart....(in reference to questions in the prelude, yes, lots of Celica's over here....Don't indulge much in the horse race game...but I think I've heard of ladies day.....I love the original by Dolly, and your parody compliments it very well..funny lines.....especially..."Forgotten their horse, think he's wearing yellow"....LOL
thanks airfarcewon - I'm amazed you don't have Ladies Days over there - we have them for racing Clubs, Football Clubs, etc. here in Australia - they're so anachronistic - but the men think they're being so thoughtful to their women by providing them with THEIR day - so special!
Stuart, fine job...5's...As to "Ladies Day", quite a few American businesses USED to have them, but as you may have noticed we are quite a litigious lot over here, hence, once the issue of "Equal treatment" for women started being taken seriously by folks (in particular, the judicial folks), a backlash of sorts formed against store or establishment policies that favored one gender over the other. So businesses that used to offer lower prices to women on "Ladies Day" found themselves being hauled into court by miffed men. So now all those businesses that used to run "Ladies Day" specials now offer the discounted rates to all customers or eliminated the "Special" day.
Enough with the dangling reasons in front of my face already! I'll move to Australia...sheesh. ; ) 5s, Stuart...
lol arwen - I don't think you'd approve of Ladies Day - as I said, it is very condescending to women (but maybe that's just me) - and I write these comments happy in the knowledge that nobody can get angry at me going off on tangents because it's MYYY thread (!!!!!) - BTW I've noticed it takes just the slightest thing to trigger parody rage in some of this site's commentators.....so many to outrage -so little time - sigh, must get to work
Paul - thanks for the 5s - so THAT explains it - you guys are too litigious - in my mind, the thwarting of do-good Ladies days is a positive product of your renowned litigiousness
Loved it, Stuart. I can see why you'd call it condescending, but I must say I'd never turn my nose down at a designated day where I could go to the bar with my girlfriends!
nor would I, and nor should you, I agree...take advantage of these old-world gentlemen and their "ladies might brighten up the place a little" mentality.....thanks for reading it, Ash!
Spot on..I miss Ladies Day...used to put on a frock...nuff said..555
I think I remember you there, Kristof!! a little dropped-waisted number, yes?? thanks for checking this out mate!!
(ABC) Australian ladies ... rrrrowwrrrrr ... those women glow, so I've heard from some men at work ...
(ABC) Sorry Stu, this one just didn't grab me. The first line gets way too much from the OS, and after that I had no idea what was going on.
(ABC) Just HALF a day? Geez! :D Cute one! 5's
(ABC05) We have Celicas but they aren't considered ladies cars. This is pretty much lost on me as well Stu.
(ABC2005) *sells Celica* Interesting theme, Stu, though I have to say I've never heard of Ladies Day before. Guess I have a whole lot of gambling to catch up on...
(L) Very thought-provoking.
ABC-- Never heard of Ladies' Day either but I try to do my best to make everyday special for my wife. She made me type that. :) Good work, Stuart.
(ABC05) Sheesh, you'd think every day is Ladies Day at my house:-) 555
