The Lyrics

Sailors ain't easy to love and they're harder to hold -
They love more the sea than you have been told
They speak with strange words you don't understand
Them right is "starboard" and left is "port"
If you don't understand her, and you don't like her boat,
Your relation is likely to be short.

Mamas, don't let your daughters grow up to be sailors.
Don't let 'em weigh anchors or hoist up the sails.
Let 'em play with make-up and polish their nails
Mamas don't let your daughters grow up to be sailors.
'Cos they'll always yearn to sea, that's where they want to be
They just want to be free

Sailors like tradewinds and sunsets and clear ocean waters
Sleeping in berth, salty air and keeping watch in the night
Those that don't know them won't like them and them that do,
Sometimes won't know how to take her.
She ain't butchy, she's just different but her pride won't let her
Do things to make you think she's right.

Mamas, don't let your daughters grow up to be sailors.
Don't let 'em weigh anchors or hoist up the sails.
Let 'em play with make-up and polish their nails
Mamas don't let your daughters grow up to be sailors.
'Cos they'll always yearn to sea, that's where they want to be
They just want to be free.

My brother's daughter did join the Navy, but she flies an Orion. Her brothers spent time at sea. Fits the spirit of the original song.

I don't know, last I heard, sailors were pretty good as SEALing the deal.

*smile* I tried to sum my own feelings up. I practically grew up in a yacht, I too have quite a many sailors in my family, and now we have a yacht on our own. The incredible freedom out there at the sea and feeling you are one with the God's nature is the thing I love most.

Women also make excellent snipers and during both WW2 and the Chechen Wars, excelled at killing enemy soliers and terrorists. Obe of my favorites was the Russian "White Wolf" that tracked and killed the Chechen "White Stocking Brigade"- she tracked them down, infiltrated and butchered them with a Sabel (sp?) and GSh-18 pistol in close quarters. During WW2 the Germans had a tough time with Soviet female snipers and VVS pilots too. Among the pilots was Lilya Litvak "The White Rose of Stalingrad", It took 8x Bf 109s to kill her!!!
