It was dusk on the lakeside
Cool wind in my hair
The croaking of bullfrogs rose up through the air
On the water was spinning a spine-chilling sight
A big gator pounced on Jim's lure, I held up the light
He was rolling and hissing
I heard myself yell
Hey it's getting dark now and I'm getting scared as hell
Then I picked up the lantern
It showed me the way
Through the brush I went running
And I heard Jim say

Welcome to the Everglades, gator heaven
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Lots of critters in Everglades, gator heaven
Any time of year, you will find them here

Shadows in the bushes, creatures of the night
And I said we could become gator bait here
Take my advice
So Jim took his knife out, didn't wanna be a feast
He quickly cut his fishing line and released the beast
Last thing I remember I was running for the car
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
Whew, that was a close one
The moral is, I believe,
When it's dark in the Everglades it could be time to leave
