| Original Performer: | The Allman Brothers Band |
| Parody Song Title: | "Midnight Writer" |
| Parody Written by: | Red Ant |
DKTOS? The 4:25 minute, "slower" version is available here. I love TOS, and decided to keep the feel of it.
[intro]
Well, I've got to pun.... to keep from dyin'
So I'm bound.... to coupon writin'!
(And) I hope there's more.... laughs to follow
But I'll take my time 'n not crank them out
Not gonna let 'em stress the midnight writer...
Sit at home....; type songs for sharin'
Time just goes....; not much for sparin'
(But) I hope there's more.... laughs to follow
So I'll take my time 'n not crank them out
Not gonna let 'em stress the midnight writer...
ooh-hoo-ooh
[laid back solo]
Sleepless guy.... who's feeling tired*
To my bed.... I'll soon retire
Well so much for.... hoots 'n hollers
But I'm not gonna stress it, no
Not gonna let it stress the midnight writer
Though I'm not gonna stress it, no
Not gonna let it stress the midnight writer....
no no no no
(more ad-libbed vocals)
Yawn-ahh!-ahh!-yawn! ....
[outro]

my fave of the day...great job...i love the OS too
Write on.
Great OS - haven't heard it for years. As for 'tire' and 'retire' - I know an Aussie who would agree with you 100% on the amount of syllables. :-) Nice job.
On target idea...Since you say that parody writing doesn't stress you, let me know the secret...'Cause sometimes, some of mine drive me up a wall...
Great Work. Though sometimes I mistake the song for "Dexy's Midnight runners" Good pacing, love it!555
not only does this Aussie totally agree with your syllable-count, he is also one of the, oh, million or so midnight writers that haunt amiright - nice job, Jack - 555
Thanks Alvin, John, Meriadoc, AFW, Joel, Stu and FA.
Alvin: There are numerous versions of this song, but the very orginal is still my favorite one.
AFW: The secret to not letting parodies stress me?: If they take more than about 5 hours to 'flesh out' (and 8 to complete), then I basically say "screw it", and ditch the idea. Trying to force ideas into songs just doesn't work for me, which is one reason why I didn't get a lot posted this month or last. And, it's really no big loss if AmIRight doesn't see the 53rd version of "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" or 45th version of "Without Me" any time soon (two songs that I now refer to as "time sinks").
Joel: I never would have made *that* conection, but it is amusing all the same. ;-)
Meriadoc and Stu: I'm not sure why, but -ire words almost always work better as 2+ syllables.
Was the "coupon" pun (for "keep on") too strained?

Perfect laid back OS for a laid back parody. I didn't realize that I"d heard it before, long ago. 5's
Thanks Pat. : )
I don't know if there's a proper name for this genre, so for the moment let's call it "blog type parodies", and here's another idea for you for it: Midnight Oil's "Beds are burning" as "Red Ant's burning (his midnight oil)", or something along those lines. :-)
Thanks Peter. As for the genre, I think this is more of a plain, old-fashioned "writing parody" parody. By not mentioning my own name, or words like "pace", "AmIRight", "DKTOS", "parody" etc., it isn't site specific, which I try to avoid now. Thanks for the suggestion too, though I'll pass for now - IHTOS, and name dropping myself (again) isn't what I'm looking for.
Very good, 5s. I couldn't listen to the OS, due to not being able to use realplayer(ir won't respond), but I can easily trust your pacing.
Thanks Step-chan. The libraries there don't have Real Player installed? It's okay, I don't have QuickTime yet.
A parody we all can relate to... As for me the Midnight Writing is college essays do the next day though.
(Artistry) Excellent craftsmanship (as usual) and a topic everyone here can relate to. BTW, I've found that it's good to hang on to those "ditched" parodies... I've come back to some after letting them sit for years and they fell into place.
(Artistry) It really does feel like you wrote this at 3am. (j/k/)
You know, if you don't sleep for 5 days, you'll become legally insane? Think of all the good stuff you'd right THEN...
(Artistry) Really, Dync? I thought it was a certain amount of cocaine...both theories are most likely pure BS. Brilliant job (again), Antman!
(Artistry) Yeah. . .creative, the original song actually puts me to sleep. . .:)
That was awesome! 5s I wrote a parody at midnight once, a polka parody LOL
