The Lyrics

The original was used in the opening of the episode of "The West Wing" that first aired before this song was posted. The show is presently in the campaign where Democratic Congressman Matt Santos (Jimmy Smits) and Republican Senator Arnold Vinick (Alan Alda) are running to replace term-limited Democratic President Jed Bartlet (Martin Sheen). Santos's campaign manager is Bartlet's former Deputy White House Chief of Staff, Josh Lyman (Bradley Whitford... not to be confused with the Aerosmith guitarist).
(Josh)
Leavin' home, out on the road
I've been down before.
Ridin' along on this big campaign
gotta get Matt Santos home.
And the White House seems so far away.
But I gotta get it all done.
Somebody's trying to blow me away.
I got to beat that Republican clown.

(The rest of the campaign staff)
Whoa-oh, calm down, Joshua Lyman!
You're getting so carried away!
Whoa-oh, calm down, Joshua Lyman!
We will win on Election Day!

(Josh)
Had to leave my D.C. home.
Donna, the assistant I trusted
she worked for Russell and she got beat
though she tried her best to get me busted!
But my heart keeps calling me backwards
as the coffee gets my motor revvin', see.
Got to keep my eyes on the prize.
From Iowa to Electoral Vote two-seventy!

(The rest of the campaign staff)
Whoa-oh, calm down, Joshua Lyman!
You're getting so carried away!
Whoa-oh, calm down, Joshua Lyman!
We will win on Election Day!

(Josh)
Touchin' down in a red-State small town.
Feel the heat comin' down.
Got to keep on keepin' on
to get those people's views all turning around.
And I'm goin' with some trepidation.
You know that I can surely see
that I don't want Republican in that
funky job called the Presidency!

(Matt Santos)
Whoa-oh, calm down, Joshua Lyman!
You're getting so carried away!
Whoa-oh, calm down, Joshua Lyman!
We will win on Election Day!

(Leo McGarry)
Whoa-oh, calm down, Joshua Lyman!
You're getting so carried away!
Whoa-oh, calm down, Joshua Lyman!
We will win on Election Day!

(Louise Thornton)
Whoa-oh, calm down, Joshua Lyman!
You're getting so carried away!
Whoa-oh, calm down, Joshua Lyman!
We will win on Election Day!

(Joey Lucas, through her sign-language interpreter, Kenny Thurman)
Whoa-oh, calm down, Joshua Lyman!
We'll get this campaign home!
Whoa-oh, calm down, Joshua Lyman!
'Cause it's there that we belong!
No, I don't know how to sign "Whoa-oh."

I don't watch the show...but I have to give 5s for great pacing and some fun lines...not to mention a FABulous OS by the SMB. I have been toying with a parody of this song for a while...this might motivate me to finish it...=)

We know how Arwen loves to toy with things... our affections, for one. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you like cats more than dogs.

WRONG. HA! I am totally more of a dog person...(my solitary pet, at the moment, is my sweet great dane)...although, one day, when I have my own house with a yard...I'll have both dogs and cats. And a butler.

So that means I'll always have a job? I'll have to get used to that thin Rocky Mountain air...
