Imagine the people calling themselves "conservative" actually conserving something... other than their own power and privilege. A healthy democracy needs a healthy conservative party to keep government from running out of control, and a healthy liberal party to keep government helping those unable to help themselves. Unfortunately, what we have now is a liberal party without a spine and a right-wing party that Calvin Coolidge, Robert Taft and Barry Goldwater would never recognize. "Conservatives"? I hope someday they'll join us. But I'm not holding my breath.
Good point. Perhaps I should have called it "The Neocons' Imagine."
