The Lyrics

Imagine there's no gubmint
It's easy if you try
A hell fa sinnas
Above us more than sky
Imagine all the people
Fightin' ev'ry day

Imagine there's no taxes
It isn't hard to do
No lazy bums to work for
No gubmint programs too
Imagine all the people
Beggin' on their knees

Imagine constant warfare
It's rather fun to do
Killing for greed and hunger
And for religion too
Imagine all the people
Poisoning the world

You may say I'm a schemer,
But I'm not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will come undone.

Imagine the people calling themselves "conservative" actually conserving something... other than their own power and privilege. A healthy democracy needs a healthy conservative party to keep government from running out of control, and a healthy liberal party to keep government helping those unable to help themselves. Unfortunately, what we have now is a liberal party without a spine and a right-wing party that Calvin Coolidge, Robert Taft and Barry Goldwater would never recognize. "Conservatives"? I hope someday they'll join us. But I'm not holding my breath.

Good point. Perhaps I should have called it "The Neocons' Imagine."
