Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

I once tried to turn Pat Benatar's song "Love Is a Battlefield" into a "City Slickers" parody, "Stuck In a Cattlefield." It didn't work. So I'm trying this, one of several "Time In a Bottle" pieces I'm working on. Don't worry, this won't be a "John Barry Spell." I won't do 50 or so of these. Narrator: Mitch Robbins (Billy Crystal), a New York advertising executive with a wiseass attitude and a midlife crisis, while he's at a cowboy fantasy camp with his two best friends, Ed Furillo (Bruno Kirby) and Phil Berquist (Daniel Stern), who've got their own issues.
(instrumental opening)

If I could spend time with the cattle
the first thing that I'd like to do
is speak of the day
when my dad took me up to the Bronx
and Mickey Mantle swung through.

If I have learned one thing from Curly
it's to concentrate on just one thing
and to figure it out
is what every man some day must do
for the wisdom it brings.

But there never seems to be enough time
to get cows from New Mexico
to Colorado.

I've looked around enough to know
that Ed and Phil are the guys I go
through time with.

(instrumental break)

If I let this calf I named Norman
go off to the other cows' doom
I would prove I'd learned nothing
so off to a petting zoo gone
he can't stay in my room.

But there never seems to be enough time
to get cows from New Mexico
to Colorado.

I've looked around enough to know
that Ed and Phil are the guys I go
through time with.

(instrumental close)
Sorry, Arwen, the cows only go as far as Colorado, not Wyoming.
