Song Parodies -> Countdown

Original Song Title:

"Sundown"

Original Performer:

Gordon Lightfoot

Parody Song Title:

"Countdown"

Parody Written by:

Michael Pacholek

On the September 25, 2006 edition of "Countdown," Keith Olbermann tried to channel the ghost of Edward R. Murrow -- right down to borrowing Murrow's singoff, "Good night, and good luck" -- and gave Georgie Bush not a countdown, but a smackdown for his lies, his failure to find and kill Osama bin Laden, and for blaming it on The Last President (so far), the honorable William Jefferson Clinton. Bravo. And for those of you who love song parodies but couldn't care less about American politics, here's the proof that I know Gordon Lightfoot wrote a song other than "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald."
(guitar intro)

I can see him coming on
now at eight o'clock
and he'll talk about Bush
and he's acting shocked.

"Countdown"
you'd better take care
'cause you'll find that Keith Olbermann
is smacking Bush there.
"Countdown"
you'd better take care
'cause you'll find that Keith Olbermann
is smacking Bush there.

He was doing nightly sports
on ESPN
but by doing this he's become
America's friend.

Sometimes
I think it's a shame
that there's not enough guys joining him
in easing our pain.
Sometimes
I think it's a shame
that there's not enough guys joining him
in easing our pain.

(guitar break)

I can see him talking on
MSNBC
and he exposes all
the Bush hypocrisy.

"Countdown"
you'd better take care
'cause you'll find that Keith Olbermann
is smacking Bush there.
Sometimes
I think it's a sin
that he's all alone in taking on
Bush lying again.

(guitar break)

I can see him tell the truth
on my TV screen.
He's a hard-driving journalist
who's feeling mean.

Sometimes
I think it's a shame
that there's not enough guys joining him
in easing our pain.
"Countdown"
you'd better take care
'cause you'll find that Keith Olbermann
is smacking Bush there.
"Countdown"
you'd better take care
'cause you'll find that Keith Olbermann
is smacking Bush there.

Sometimes
I think it's a sin
that he's all alone in taking on
Bush lying again.

(guitar fadeout)
