Parody Song Title:

"Alkanes"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

The idea for this came while writing the Decathlon science entry: very simple, a bit obvious, but chemically accurate. The final two choruses don't scan properly, but you can sing the extra syllable without too much grief
The lightest of them all
Is simply CH4
Methane
And the next one you see
Is CH3CH3
Ethane

CH3
CH2
CH3
Propane

To make it longer, you
Just insert CH2
Butane
Add another one
That chain is getting long
Pentane

CH3
(CH2)4
CH3
Hexane

CH3
(CH2)n
CH3
Alkane

{in my best Dale Gribble voice} Phil, it's good to meet somebody else who realizes that the enantiomers of the lipophilic pesticides -- trans-chlordane, cis-chlordane and heptachlor -- are separated using an alkane mobile phase.
