The Lyrics

Lawyer and tree shot outside L.A. courthouse. Source:http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,101855,00.htmlClick this link on the webpage for video: Attorney Shot Outside L.A. CourtQ. What is worse than a bus full of lawyers going over a cliff?A. The same bus with an empty seat.
He shot the lawyer, but he did not mean to shoot that tree.
He shot the lawyer, but he did not mean to shoot that tree.

All around that tree he wound.
Just trying to shoot him down.
The Druids want to bring him in guilty
For the shooting of a young oak tree.
Could care less for the attorney.
Now he'll pay:

He shot the lawyer and the news kept us in much suspense,
He shot the lawyer but the tree guys want him hung out on the fence.

Curry:

William Strier really hated me,
For takin' all his dough.
That tree grew from just a seed,
But then he shot me in the nose.
The tree men want me to depose.
He'll pay:

He shot the lawyer and, the news kept us in much suspense,
That tree destroyer, he's gonna need a good defense.

Strier:

Curry used me as his prey,
And played me for a clown.
And I so wanted to go and gun him down,
Fired ev'ry last round,
But I shot, that poor tree down.
No way:

Grabbed by the sheriff, after he shot down that attorney.
Wham goes the bailiff, for the shooting of a young oak tree.

Complex as this case seems to be,
Don't forget that poor young tree,
Then one day the docket will tell the tale,
On that day the lawyer will sell out,
Yes, that day the lawyer will sell out.

He shot the lawyer, but he did not mean to shoot that tree.
So says the bailiff, he should have capped out that attorney.

Good parody, Guy. I thought it was interesting that there were a lot of photographers on hand (because Robert Blake was scheduled to make an appearance) and they just kept taking photos and videos without thinking about saving the attorney.

You may have allowed what should've been a 24-hour story live for a whole week.

I saw this on the news too. Didn't mention the tree, tho'. They didn't bother to tell what happened to the lawyer either. I thought that was very weird...

Merry - NBC early today had an interview with that lawyer chap, Mr Curry, this morning. Curry said he did not even know Strier and that he was handling an inheritance for Strier and his sister. Strier was distraught, according to Curry, because his sister either got all the inheritance or way more than the lion's share. Curry was not seriously injured. If he was seriously injured or worse I would have never written this parody. Curry said that Strier walked up to him and asked him if he was Gerry Curry. Curry answered yes, who are you? Then Strier opened fire. This account differs vastly from the earlier news reports about the particulars of the event.

After having lived in L.A. for far too long (and happy to be out), I can appreciate this as an oddly-typical L.A. story, and also really appreciate your parody -- classic, Guy!

John Spoof - Leaving comments is a bit hard to do when all the songs I visited either had no place to enter comments or said the following:

Parody author did not authorize comments for this parody.

Also a lot of your songs I am unfamiliar with and it just would not be fair for me to vote on songs I do not know. I looked at your Barbara Ann parody on the beach boys and was going to comment but again the comment field was switched off. Check the allow comments block when you submit and I'll be glad to comment on the songs that I do know. And thanks for your comment on this song.

The author of the parody has authorized comments, and wants YOUR feedback.
