| Parody Song Title: | "25 or 6 to 47 or 8 (or was it 9?)" |
| Parody Written by: | J. Calvin 'Bimp' Smith |
I wrote this parody sometime around 1973, when I was in high school.
Walking blindly down the street,
Saying words I can't repeat.
Mother hears the words I say;
Have to eat soap one whole day.
Sitting cross-eyed in a tree,
25 or 6 to 3.
Getting blindly out of bed;
Rolling off, I crack my head.
Well, it got me wide awake.
Slightly more than I can take.
Should I try to feed the cow?
25 or 6 to now.
Eating mushrooms from a cup.
Learn they're poison, throw them up.
Tying squareknots in my tongue.
I suppose I could die young.
If I had to do it o'er,
25 or 6 to 4.
Saying words I can't repeat.
Mother hears the words I say;
Have to eat soap one whole day.
Sitting cross-eyed in a tree,
25 or 6 to 3.
Getting blindly out of bed;
I brought this lyric into school one day, and it was an immediate hit with my friends. One of them, a member of a newly-formed rock band, pulled out the lyric and began singing it one night when his group was doing Chicago songs. They could barely play for the fit of giggles that ensued. They told me I should send the lyrics to Chicago itself, which I did; I got the address off one of the LPs I owned and sent it to them. A few months later, I get a very appreciative letter from Robert Lamm, their keyboardist, signed in magic marker, which I've kept to this day. (He was my favorite member of that group, by the way.)
