Original Song Title:

"The Rose"

Original Performer:

Bette Midler

Parody Song Title:

"Alone"

Parody Written by:

Duffy

Just how I am feeling now.
Some say love, it comes unbidden
And leaves when it decides
Some say love cannot be hidden
In truth, I must confide
I say love it is a downfall
A snare so deep, so sly
Because love it is a heartbreak
When loved ones say goodbye

It's the heart that is like mine, now
A faithful, trusting heart
That gets broken and abandoned
When lovers choose to part
Stand alone and keep your distance
Don't show your humbled side
It's the hearts that are like mine now
That think it best to hide

I'm resigned to living solo
In heart, if not in life
And my soul, it does get heavy
For an unloved, hurting wife
Won't someone relieve my burden?
Won't someone try to care?
Oh, I'm tired of being lonely
It's far too hard to bear

Poignant and beautiful - my heart goes out to you, with a hug and a triple five.
David Chrenko - January 09, 2004 - Report this comment
Consider the How Funny category as How Poignant - for which you certainly deserve 5s. Try not to lean on your own understanding, there's a green pasture with your name on it.

Duffy that was lovely. All 5's. And I concur with Mr Chrenko, when someone is obviously trying to tell a story, I change the "how funny" into something like "How sincere". I only wish the person who voted one had done so.

This parody was written three days before I went into a coma, and lost my 9 year old daughter and husband of 14 years to carbon monoxide poisoning. My son (who was hospitalized as well) and I are slowly recovering. Thank you Diva and David for asking.

I'm sorry, but that is more touching than what you parodied.

I agree with Mr. Jones. It is touching, and proof positive that a song parody can make you cry.
