Parody Song Title:

"Crazy Old Trombone Player Who Does Karaoke"

Parody Written by:

Old Man Ribber

This song is about...well, me. In addition to doing parodies when I sing karaoke, I often bring my trombone and play the instrumental breaks. As for the original song, I'm well aware that it first belonged to the Andrews Sisters in the 1940's. The words and rhythms are sometimes tricky and shifting. When performing this, I can usually "shove the square peg into the round hole" without too much trouble. Here I've tried to indicate these points with (not always) careful dashes and line changes.

He was an old time trombone player who loved to play
But there weren't many jobs that would come his way
And 'though his heart was really big
There simply wasn't a place where he could get him a gig
But you can see him now - down in Kentucky
He's the crazy old trombone player who does karaoke

He wishes he was playing in a swinging band
But then the karaoke jock devised a plan
He said "Although you sure can sing,
Go out and get your trombone. get up and just do your thing!"
He makes the singers gasp - when he plays melody
He's the crazy old trombone player who does karaoke.

A-romp - A-bomp - A romp-bomp-bomp
He plays with metal and rock - or even country
Make funny words to all of the songs he's singing
He makes the singers cringe - with his insanity
He's the crazy old trombone trombone player who does karaoke

He leaves - them all stunned when he plays trombone at the karaoke
And, 'though he's crazy on the stage, he's as normal as he can be
The singers sit on their hands - they don't want folks to see
That they kind of like the trombone player at karaoke

Ah toodley ada, toodley ada, root-toot-toot
He plays on country or rock
Makes funny words to all of the songs he's singing
And the singers don't - believe what they see
He's the crazy old trombone player who does karaoke

(Instrumental chorus)

He plays the town sports center for the bowling pins
He sings in competitions but he never wins
He plays and sings each benefit and local show
And he performs at Christmas in the falling snow
"Oh No!" the singers moan when he changes the key
He's the crazy old trombone player who does karaoke

(Free form jazz rhythms and lyrics for most of the last chorus)
And the singers jump up and the scream "Bite Me!"
To the crazy old trombone player who does karaoke!
(That's Me!)

Again, I came as close to the Bette Midler version as possible. ;D

Don't know the Middler version so not sure about the pacing but an entertaining read

Having done this OS before, I know how hard it is matching the rhythm...but you did well. I think you could have left out the "old" in the title line for a better fit but otherwise great stuff

Fantastic - you don't choose the easy songs to do, do you? (Check out Kristof's version of it, though - it's fantastic :-) )
