The Lyrics

This is a topical post-Christmas sort of song... at least, it's very topical in this household :-)
I hate writing letters, I find them a bit of a chore
If I'm given something, I'll only be asking for more
But my mummy told me, and gave me a smack
If I don't say "thank you", she'll give 'em all back
I'm so grateful, it's true
That I'm penning a letter or two

So I write
Thank you for the present, the thing you gave me
It tasted oh, so good with gravy
Tell me where you got it, I ask in all honesty
Where's the recei...pt
Can I exchange it for something I need?
So I say thank you for the present
For giving it to me

Mummy says I must say thank you, or else I am rude
She says it don't matter, whether it's bad or it's goood
And I've often wondered, who thought of this stuff?
It's so very useless, I've more than enough
What's a "catameringue"?
Well, whatever it is.. it's in the can

So I write
Thank you for the present, from last December
What it was, can't quite remember
Couldn't live without it, I write in all honesty
Perfect for me
Whatever thing it turned out to be
So I write
Thank you for the present
For giving it to me

I've been so lucky, I've presents coming out my hair
That means I've gotta write to everybody
What a joy ... need a life ... not a chance!

So I say
Thank you for the present, at time of writing
We all find it most exciting
Shame that someone broke it, but.. hey, in all honesty
Wasn't it free?
And as to who sat on it? Wasn't me!
So I say thank you for the present
For giving it to me

One of ABBA's most atmospherical songs and I can vividly imagine them singing these words instead. "Thank you for the present" would work perfect as an alternative text if it wasn't for the humor which, of course, isn't a bad thing here on AmIright. Abba had a studio wizard named Mikael B Tretow who used to do some funny stuff like this in Swedish, I figure that if he ever sees this he'll crack up. At least I did. 555.

Damn! I had the same idea, to the same tune, but you've come up with something far better than what I could've put together. Great! 555
