Parody Song Title:

"SOB"

Parody Written by:

Phil Alexander

You have a happy smile, you are polite and kind
A perfect gentleman when we wined and dined
What happens to you when you drink
I wish I understood
You used to be so nice, you used to be so good

But when you're plastered, you're an utter bastard
S. O. B.
When you've been drinking, everyone is thinking
S. O. B.
When you're pissed
We all hope that you'd stop to exist
When you're pissed
You're no good and you would not be missed

You seemed a good and happy cheerful sort of bloke
A smile on your face, you used to laugh and joke
But when you'd had a pint or two
Your outlook changed so quick
Why do you have to drink, why are you such a pr... silly person

'Cause when you're plastered, you're an utter bastard
S. O. B.
When you've been drinking, everyone is thinking
S. O. B.
When you're drunk
On this earth, you're the most worthless punk
When you're pissed
You're no good and you would not be missed

But when you're plastered, you're an utter bastard
S. O. B.
When you've been drinking, everyone is thinking
S. O. B.
When you're pissed
You're no good and you would not be missed
When you're drunk
On this earth, you're the most worthless punk
When you're tight
We all doubt you'll hold out for the night
When you're pissed
You're no good and you would not be missed

I've seen some other ABBA send-ups on this site, some of which fit the original melody badly in places. This one is an all-around great job though: close match to the tune, imitation of even the internal rhymes in the "real" lyrics, strong enough contrast in theme to inspire a few good laughs. My only quibble is that "stop to exist" isn't good grammar here; I'd have written "cease to exist" since that's the intended meaning and still keeps the song intact.

Thank you Ingeborg - I completely agree with your "cease to exist" comment, it kind of makes me cringe to think I didn't come up with it in the first place ;-)

I've done one other Abba parody, too: "Portaloo", and will probably turn in a couple more in the not too distant future, so please stick around.

Where have all these been?

They've been here all this time, Pippin: I've been around a bit longer than you and Merry... though I notice you're kind of catching up :-)
