Egad! You've described the Texas Rangers. Great idea, clever title, ESPN should use this as intro and background on their baseball bloopers segment.

Alvin, like Stan, you are The Man. I'd like to give you a 6, to match Stan's uniform number. Alas, the rules say I can only give you a 5, which is how many home runs Stan hit in a doubleheader in 1954. When I was working on my all-30-MLB-teams project, I got stuck on St. Louis, and nearly did "Stan 'the Man' Musial, he is loved by everyone," but never got further than that. I ended up with "Cardinals' Sin," to a Black Sabbath song, and it collapsed like, well, a house of cards.
