People try to put us down(talking 'bout my generation)
Just because we're still around " " "
They say it's time to give it a rest
you know you're really past your best
So you were hot in seventy six
but do you have to keep playing those tired old licks?
God the years have taken their toll
you're far too old to rock and roll
just close up the cabriolet hood
your babe magnet days are gone for good
you've rolled your last humungous spliff
your joints are now too swollen and stiff
that was your generation
your generation baby
why don't you all ffffffade away
and just try to dig what I'm gonna say
I'm not trying to cause a big sensation
I'm just talkin about my generation
so what if the years have taken their toll
your never too old to rock and roll
as long as we can still stagger around
we'll keep pushin out those funky sounds
I don't need no viagra shot
my flamin fender keeps me hot
I've got my sparklin wit and my repartee
and groupies fizzin with HRT
you don't need to ask us to take you higher
you know that we still light your fire
when I can chill all day with capital gold
I don't wanna die before I get old
This is my generation
This is my generation baby
Just because we're still around " " "
They say it's time to give it a rest

Reminds me of the Simpsons' episode where they jumped to the future, and Lisa had a Rolling Stones' "Steel Wheelchairs" poster on her wall!

Rick.. got it yes very funny and the light my fire thing appeared there too strangely!
My favorite line is "groupies fizzing with HRT". Which actually would be my generation. LOL
!Yes .. I wrote this about some old friends of mine who are still playing regulalrly and having a ball dong it.... If you are ever in England check out the fabulous jam session at the Grapes pub Bridge Street in Stafford on a Sunday night and say hi to John and Derek for me! If you are up for take an instrument and play too..
I liked the viagra/ fender couplet best; well done.
Very good parody. I agree with Claude on the best couplet.
Cool! It reminds me of the "Married With Children" episode where Al, along with Peter Noone, Richie Havens, John Sebastian and other rock icons from the 60s made fun of "We are the World" with "Old Aid" -- "We are the old, we have arthritis..."
Thanks ofr the comments Claude John and Mari D .. it was a fun song to write I haven't seen the married with children episode but it sounds really funny...
Disagree on the best couplet: "you’ve rolled your last humungous spliff/your joints are now too swollen and stiff" is just too good :-)
(ABC) Well I prefer to say that they were the standout couplets, complementing the witty rhyming of the rest.
(ABC) "as long as we can still stagger around" .... makes me think of other Brit groups from the '60s..... Rolling Stones.... Moody Blues..... great job, Martha!
(ABC) You tell 'em! ;-)
