The Lyrics

I needed to write a topical parody to perform at a radio recording this evening. Seeing as the Chinese artist and dissident Ai Weiwei is still under lock and key, this somewhat bad taste number is going to be it. I mean, it worked for Nelson Mandela - after "Free Nelson Mandela" was released, it only took about seven years and one revolution before he was freed.
(Chant.. see if you can keep it going all through the song)
Ai Weiwei Ai Weiwei Ai Weiwei Ai Weiwei

In the prison, the Chinese prison Ai Weiwei sleeps tonight
In the prison, the Chinese prison Ai Weiwei sleeps tonight
Free-ye-ye-ye-ye-ye Ai Weiwei

It's my mission, make people listen: Ai Weiwei's locked up tight
People listen, he's not gone fishin' Ai Weiwei's locked up tight
Free-ye-ye-ye-ye-ye Ai Weiwei

Aren't they bastards, those Commie bastards? Ai Weiwei's locked up tight
**** those bastards, those Commie bastards. Ai Weiwei's locked up tight
Free-ye-ye-ye-ye-ye Ai Weiwei

Why is the regime so afraid of dissent. The US government tolerates all manner of insult, yet it manages to get away with intrusions the Chicom rulers can only dream of.

This parody could've used some more work but considering the circumstances it ain't too bad. FREE AI WEIWEI NOW, TODAY - NO, I MEAN YESTERDAY!

It aint bad taste if it gets noticed - and this one's getting noticed for all the right reasons. Nice job, Phil!

Thought I'd commented on this months ago.. it was performed once, and only once. The Chinese most unhelpfully released him the following day. I did consider writing to the embassy to ask if they wouldn't mind locking him up again so that I could get more mileage from my protest song, but thought they might think I was serious :-)
