This was inspired by several incidents in which lawmakers congregated on the Capitol steps to sing patriotic songs (after September 11, and then again during the U.S.-Iraq War). While it's touching, it was also obvious (with all due respect to the fine men and women of the U.S. Congress) that most of those in the choir should stick with their day-jobs.
I understand they love their home
and cherish it with love
But America's top leadership had better learn to know,
That I wish that Congress wouldn't sing,
so badly out of tune,
They shriek and squeal and sound - for real - like 535 goons.
I liked that they all stood up, for once,
together holding hands,
But the Dem and Grand Ol Party reps
are sounding really bad!
Instead of trying to harmonize (on the Capitol steps),
patriotic tunes
I wish they'd end this stupid war
and stop being bloody fools.
All of us here love our home,
Blessed from high above,
But priorities and human needs should be more widely known!
