Get the cold shoulder, site is not there,
Won't adhere no how.
Will my search be ending up all reassigned?
Burned impeding, request declined.

Where is the route now where can it be?
It seems blocked for sure,
It does impede me, yes sir in-deedy,
Errored 404.

oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oooo [1]
Won't it scroll on through?
It won't display a word,
Then turns my screen blue.

This is just dandy, watching it snooze,
All my sites are gone.
I'm an internetter on a mired ride,
Mundane warnings service denied.

Begging a pardon, gigabyte tease,
It won't fetch or store,
Not over needy, just want it speedy,
Not this 404.

Ever wonder how they vent the wattage
When they style the site when it's out of gear?
As it misbehaves,
Stand chillin' orn-er-y,
Error, chuck and cave.

Why is my host marred? Dropped me offline,
No more sites to view.
Inundate quite nicely, I'm blown clean away,
I'm so clearly facing dismay.

Just like a cancer, it does transform,
Wait for evermore
Dropped not so sweetly, kicked out completely,
Errored 404.

Boo!

[1] "oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oooo" These are really encrypted zeros pronounced as "OH" as in all zeros in the bytes of information that is flowing to your PC. This event condition launches the dreaded 404 error. =;-)

They're probably diguised as something else on this machine, but what does an error 404 look like? Some words or phrases of that parody seem like a spurned lover, or is it just me? :) 5's

my favorite of your 404 songs....very catchy
Max Power - September 25, 2009 - Report this comment
They sometimes can lead to BSOD.

Terrific! And very "singable" too ... if you can sing, of course. "Error, chuck and cave." I love it. :-)

Been there before - well written salute to the nasty 404

oo oo oo, How I can relate! : )
TT (and @ adagio) - September 25, 2009 - Report this comment
@adagio: It 's just you. :) It's a message that your browser went to a URL (the address in your address bar, at the top) that's non-existent.

Guy: Yeah, but they're becoming extinct: Many ISPs are "monetizing" errors by redirecting you to an advertising page, from which they make money, instead of a simple 404 error message. Of course, moi's browser is set not to allow any redirection before asking for my express permission. So I get just a blank page with the redirect request -- denied, of course. Lol for 404..I hate them, too

Awesome new 404 song! Can't stand those damn things! Fixing you 555's!

Pat - What TT said is about right. A standard type 404 would be just a simple message outputted to your screen and would probably look like this:

Page Not Found (404)

You can force a 404 error on amiright by altering the information on your browser address space. This parody has a specific link and that link is:

http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/thebeatles2486.shtml

Change the link in your browser address space to:

http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/thebeatles24861.shtml

Then press the enter key. This will launch a 404 error but it will be redirected back to one of the 404 parodies that reside in the 404 redirect pool. You will also see at the top of the page, the "Page Not Found (404)" error message. But as TT has declared, most 404 errors are redirected to advertising web pages. Isn't capitalism great? Even though the redirected ads are annoying they say to me that our capitalism is still alive and kickin'.

Alvin - Much appreciate your time and attention - I'm happy to have entertained you for a few minutes today.

Max - Yes indeed and the much dreaded BSOD is mentioned in the parody - thanks for V/C.

Forsby - As I was writing this I scanned down the OS and wondered what I'd do with "Vera, Chuck and Dave" but when I got to it the idea just jumped into my mind. I too am rather fond of that part of the parody if I may say so. Thanks for the attention.

Timmy1K - I've been working these beasts for way too long in that my tolerance for anomalous behavior of any sort rapidly annoys me. I think that is why I have written now nine 404 parodies. It helps me to work out my frustrations of which most of it comes from work. Thanks.

Fiddlegirl - I didn't know what else to do with that part of the OS so I left it as is and did the silly footnote. So happy that someone has related to it. Thanks much!

TT - Yeah, I do the same thing with my browser - there is so much redirecting going on these days. A surprising number of search engine hits when clicked on wind up on copycat servers via redirect to the Peoples Republic of China where they have geek squads who collect information and work on ways to exploit anything and everything that lands on their silicon. And as always your comments are most welcome and much appreciated on my parody pages.

AFW - Now that's a really direct comment - care to elaborate? =;-) Thanks buddy.

Christie Marie - I find them most annoying when I am at work trying to get some stressful IT work accomplished and time is not my friend. Thanks for letting me amuse you for a bit today and letting me know that you visited.

Great job, Guy! --now can you redo it to '409' ;)
Old Man Ribber - September 26, 2009 - Report this comment
Though I am computer illiterate, I chuckle at this. Right on!
Guy - September 26, 2009 - Report this comment
TJC - You betcha no doubt I can but alas Red Ant seems to have beaten me to the draw on that one. I don't wish to steal his thunder. Thanks.

Ribber - I do try at times when I write geek to write them for those non IT types and this time it seems to have worked out - so glad it was worth your time to read and thanks.

Guy, lol. At least SOMETHING good is indicated from redirects.

Now I know from your explanation that I've run into plenty of error 404's...thanks!!! TT, thanks as well.

Pat and anyone else who may be interested - you can get a complete listing of all 404 parodies that are in the 404 redirect pool by using this amiright link: http://www.amiright.com/404links.shtml Not all the 404 errors have 404 in the parody title so doing a search on amiright for 404 will not get all of them.

Just today, I was looking on Google for a radio station playlist, and when I clicked on the one link that seemed like it might be what I was looking for--well, you get three guesses what happened, and the first two don't count.

Error 555. Nice work.

Joanthan S - I became suspicious og GOOGLE this morning when I noticed that GOOGLE's logo appeared to have an extra "L" in it. Upon further examination I was made aware that today is Google's 11's birthday. The two "L's" were actually ones. Womder how many people will completely miss this?

Thanks for sharing your encounter with the rest of us and it gave me a chance to report on GOOGLE's different look today. I'm almost worse than TT when I'm on computers - I am always on the lookout for anything bizarre that may do harm to my identy or my system. Thanks.
