Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

While Phil Alexander is still the king of historical parodies, I bow to no one in my dukedom. Because of Roman numerals and pacing, I had to type out the titles of Pope Leo X and Emperor Charles V.
I'm-a Luther!
Martin Luther!

And I'm not what they think I should be!

Of all the battles the Church won or lost
do not fight one where the Pope has been crossed.
Traded salvation for money, my friend.
Five hundred years later, Republican.

I'm-a Luther!
And I'm not guilty of heresy!
I'm-a Luther!
And I'm not what they think I should be!

When I nailed ninety-five questions on door
Leo the Tenth said he can't take no more!
Told Charles the Fifth, had enough of your lies!
Here I stand, I cannot do otherwise!

I'm-a Luther!
And I'm not guilty of heresy!
I'm-a Luther!
And I'm not what they think I should be!

(instrumental break)

By skin of teeth I avoided my fate.
Founded new church with no despot prelate.
Since then we've seen some improvements in Pope.
I just hope Benedict won't be a dope.

I'm-a Luther!
And I'm not guilty of heresy!
I'm-a Luther!
And I'm not what they think I should be!

(instrumental fadeout)

From Richard Lederer's "The World According to Student Bloopers":

"Martin Luther was nailed to the church door at Wittenberg for selling papal indulgences. He died a horrible death, being excommunicated by a bull."

545 Good parody, but it's not too funny... pretty good though.

Very good parody, good job of fitting the "otherwise" line in naturally. The Republican line is very much of an overgeneralization - there are many liberal Lutherans.
