The Lyrics

Conceived when I saw an equivalent "Kerry" parody... from outside the US it's always seemed to me that the accusations levelled against Kerry have been either proven false or are utterly trivial compared to what Bush has been getting away with for the past few years.
(George Bush, George Bush)
Nearly four years since when he first got in
No one here thought that he was goin' to win
But with a few big lies and some underhand tricks
And a lotta folks said the election was fixed for George Bush

(George Bush, George Bush) 'Dubya' Bush

Nobody could understand him when he spoke
And though we all knew that he'd taken coke
And drank to excess and and got kinda high
But they said "He's just a regular guy" is George Bush.

Somebody said he came from down South
Grew up with a big, loud Texan mouth
Family was rich, reckon he's upper class
But everyone knows that he talks through his teeth - George Bush

(George Bush, George Bush) 'Dubya' Bush

He's had to rely on people who can
Distinguish Iraq from Afghanistan
'Cause folks would be angry, folks would have cursed
If he had invaded the wrong one first, George Bush

With mirrors and smoke his bad deeds he hid
So his supporters don't know all the things he did
As Rumsfeld and co string 'em all along
They say he's a Godly man.. they're wrong -George Bush

(George Bush, George Bush) 'Dubya' Bush

A war 'gainst terror ain't fought with bombs
Ain't fought with guns, or with Saddams
To fight 'gainst terror takes brains, I say
But 'telligence just ain't his forté-George Bush

He's spent your money, sent your sons to die
In the name of an outright oil-soaked lie
And maybe you'll vote Bush, and maybe you won't
'Cause he's the Devil you know, not the devil you don't - George Bush

(George Bush, George Bush) 'Dubya' Bush

Now I know you folks don't like advice
From us European, English guys
But votin' Bush could be a big mistake
Don't know how much more the world can take of George Bush

(George Bush, George Bush) 'Dubya' Bush

FADE (George Bush, George Bush) 'Dubya' Bush

To be fair and balanced, I give this excellent parody a vote of 555, and I also gave Guy DiRito's counter-parody a vote of 555!

Wasn't the original hit by Jimmy Dean?

WGAF who the original was by - as it says above, this one is "based on the performance by", which is the one I happen to have. That's why the text was changed so that pathetic little pedants didn't have to hide their names while nitpicking.

from a distance these parody-offs are heatin up something serious! - some great lines though (invaded wrong one first) - 555 for quality

Too many good lines to choose...but a special mention to the comment about the British perspective...as a non-American, I feel at times guilty about throwing my hat into the ring (as I did yesterday), but....dammit, it's my world too! Brilliant, Phil...555

Outstanding job, Phil! Police, I believe TEF did the original.

I disagree with much of it, but this is a very clever, well-rhymed parody. I liked the way you rhymed class with ... teeth.

fives...my favorite line was the one about the devil you know and the devil you don't

How come the Brits can see from 4,000 miles away what some Americans can't see right in front of their faces: Bush is a freakin' disaster! Of course, those short-sighted Australians just re-elected their government, but then, in that upside-down land, the conservatives are called the Liberals. As for the Devils I know, when is that damn hockey lockout going to end?

Phil - While I was reading this I was thinking, who the hell is this Brit to advise on our election and then I read the last verse and lost it. Ha Ha Ha. Great parody.

Kristof - IKWYM, but since my country is fighting a war I strongly disapproved of when it started *because* of GWB's presidency, even though I have no vote, I am affected by the outcome; so I've got to get it out of my system somehow...
JJ - thank you for your consideration: too much of the current campaign is spent *not* listening to the opposing side, just because they're the other side. Still, I enjoy most of the Kerry-bashing parodies, too (when they're well-written, that is)
Alvin - that's one of my favourites, too :-)
Michael - possibly because over here we don't get the right-wing propaganda machines consistently and insistantly telling us that all these nasty stories about Bush are left-wing propaganda?
Guy - As I said to Kristof, the result of your election affects me, too... so I'm trying to influence things in the best way I know ;-)

Phil - Y'all are in this war up to your eyeballs as we are and I have understood this. I was well aware of your reasoning even when those thoughts of "who the hell is this Brit ..." were going through my mind when I was reading the parody. What struck me funny was the fact that the next lines replied exactly to my thoughts as I was reading. I completely understand your point of view and I find it refreshing that non Americans can write political satire. I enjoy reading satire written by non Americans on our political system because it kind of tells me how we are viewed from abroad. Keep writing my friend.
