The Lyrics

In memoriam, 2003-2007.
(instrumental opening)

Are you watching for Barbaro's care?
Past the stage, has run out of time?
Remember him, the horse who ran there.
He once was a good bet of mine.

Tell you he won running at Churchill Downs.
(In the infield in Louisville, deep forest green.)
Past the stage, sensational time.
(Citation and Secretariat's ground.)
The other horses made bettors clowns.
(Blanket of roses for winner of Derby.)
He once was a good bet of mine.
(Runs full aware of the clarion's call.)

Tell you he walked on the Pimilco track.
(In the infield in Baltimore, deep forest green.)
On this stage, soon it was post time.
(Seattle Slew won way back, so many years.)
But winner's circle, would not make it back.
(The fate of Go For Wand and Ruffian.)
Shock and awe, those feelings were mine.

Tell you the docs worked on him day and night.
(Horse bellows blazing in scarlet infection.)
Wizened sages, vets got in line.
(Racing fans praying that this would not kill.)
And gathered they all, but could not make it right.
(Lost the fight, but this horse never is forgotten.)
Then, sadness, was feeling of mine.

Were you watching for Barbaro's care?
Past the stage, has run out of time.
Remember him, the horse who ran there.
He once was a good bet of mine.

(instrumental close)

I can understand why someone would trash parodies I write about certain teams I don't like, but why would someone vote 12 ones on a tribute to Barbaro? I've heard of "beating a dead horse," but this is just mean.
