The Lyrics

A warm tribute
When things are slow and life is seemingly boring
You can always go... Downtown
Though you might worry 'bout the Bloods and their fury
Just stay on your toes... Downtown

Just listen to the music of the nearest ghetto blaster
The writing on the walls and sidewalk makes you run much faster
So much to lose

The lights are much brighter there
From all of the gunfire
From all of the flares, so go
Downtown, stick out your neck and drive
Downtown, see if you stay alive
Downtown, every thug's waiting for you

Just hang around and let the homeless surround you
Asking for spare change... Downtown
Maybe you'll get some of the muggers to let you go
By acting strange... Downtown

Just listen to the volume of the honking and the siren
And look at the expended shells that prove someone's been firin'
Somewhere near you
The lights are much brighter there
The coppers use the big spotlights
That fly in the air

So go Downtown
You can see a real bloody fight
Downtown, Friday's the rumble night
Downtown... We're gonna go there right now...

[Inst.]

And you may learn artistic skills like how to pick a pocket
And how to chip out someone's filling and the place to hock it
And how to sell crack

So maybe I'll send you there
You can get into my troubles, handle my affairs, so go
Downtown, don't let them grab at you
Downtown, stay off the slab when you're
Downtown, don't let them nab you out there...

All that's missing are the hookers... until your son comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard.

Very funny! A nice companion piece to Pooch's 'Downtown 2003'. The possibilities in this song are endless. (But I'll just save the gas and drive to Van Nuys) :-D

I have not seen a "gangster" in downtown LA. what days have you been, so I will be sure not go? I only see hobos and big rats, but it was funny. It would be more comical if it held some truth, but eh, who cares? Bravo!!!
