Song Parodies -> "X, The Bastard Letter"

Original Song Title:

"Puff The Magic Dragon"

Original Performer:

Peter Paul and Mary

Parody Song Title:

"X, The Bastard Letter"

Parody Written by:

Red Ant

The Lyrics

The ultimate X parody?
X, the bastard letter, sounds like a Z
From xenophobes to xylophones and stuff that's inbetween
I could Xerox paper, speak of Xenon gas
To tell the truth it's not much use, it's a pain in the ass

[optional verse]
X, the bastard letter, sounds like a Z
From xenophobes to xylophones and stuff that's inbetween
X, the bastard letter, sounds like a Z
From xenophobes to xylophones and stuff that's inbetween

Now X's are uncommon except on bright sunny days
You will find that the skies are bombarded with X-Rays
When you label axis (yes we are talking math)
The horizontal component's the X-line on the graph, but!

X, a bastard letter, sounds like a Z
From xenophobes to xylophones and stuff that's inbetween
X, the bastard letter, before the Y
Would not regret an alphabet, that numbered twenty five!

Now if we're talking endings, X is not really bad
With no X there'd be no sex and I'd be really mad!
Somewhere in the middle is where most X is used
Exit (and a whole bunch more) but still X has no X-cuse!

This letter causes sorrow in a Scrabble game
Words like faux they are your foe and so are proper names!
X it is not your friend, though sometimes it is great
Spell EXPLORE for a big score (you know X it is worth 8)!, but

X, the bastard letter, sounds like a Z
Though drop the E from words extreme and well you sound more X-TREME!
X, that bastard letter, it's kind of weak
It's not like F which I like best when I curse those effin' Greeks!

I bow down to you Red Ant lol. Is there anything you can't make a good parody of?

Oh my gosh...I love this! Number one...and this is pretty commonly known around here...the word 'bastard' NEVER fails to make me laugh. So...right there you had me. But, dammit, the whole thing is just HILARIOUS! I love the Scrabble stuff...and, well, everything!

GREAT JOB!!

I see what you're doing here, Antman...didn't have an "X" parody for the ABC comp, did ya? It's OK, I'm going to do Xactly the same thing! This is stupendous, mate! 555

An ultra-clever classic...My favorite line: "With no X, there'd be no sex" and , of course, taking that as a true scenario....this song would've been performed by just "Paul And Mary"...High fives to ya

First, apologies to Phil Alexander, Rex U and anyone else who has the letter X in their name. No offense was intended towards anyones name. Thanks Huff, Arwen Kristof, Alvin, AFW, Step-chan, John B, LLLB, Pat, Jeff, Royce, Jackie and Carol.

Huff: I'm flattered, but there are several things in the parody world I've butchered, including my one disco song and both raps I attempted. I still don't have a food related parody either.

Arwen: I'm glad you enjoyed this and laughed. Other than that your compliment has me left me speechless. Bastard. ;-)

Kristof: Actually I wrote an X titled parody posted yesterday. This one is funnier though. Look foward to yours. XD

Alvin: Isn't that X marks the spot? (A title I contemplated using and still might eventually).

AFW, I guess there's always "secks".

Step-chan, John, LLLB, Pat, Royce and Carol: After expending much of my brain last night making this I'm feeling exceptionally dull at the moment, so I'll just re-iterate thanx again.

Jeff: X Round? The idea never Xed my mind. :-)

Jackie Paper: True, but it makes great parody fodder.

That letter can be rather X-asperating. In fact, somebody should turn Carly Simon's "Anticipation" into "Exasperation."

Thanks John, Michael and Phil Alexander! Be proud of that X, and also be glad I do not speak with a Spanish accent or I'd probably pronounce it as Ale-hander. ;-)

And this was followed by a parody to a song from the band Extreme, I can see the line of thinking that went on, and it was x-rated for xure.

Red Ant, YOU ARE SESAME STREET MATERIAL!
Red Ant - December 02, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Peter, I'd like to think that was a coincidence but you may have something there. Oh, since you adopted 3 X's in your name I guess I should tell you how that would sound: The only proper name I know with a r before the x is Xerxes, who I believe was a CEO for a Persian rug company. ;-) Anyway, that is pronounced Zerk-seas, so following the same convention Anderxxon becomes Anderkson or possibly Anderkszon.

2LD4U: ? (Thanx, I guess).

yeah, good point about X-TREME sounding more than extreme - INXS also works better than "In Excess" - I'm actually in the X camp though - I kinda think it's the coolest letter - XXX
Red Ant - December 05, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Stu, I could see where a former calculus teacher (you were, right?) would find X useful and cool - or perhaps the XXX you left meant you find it cool for other reasons. ;-) Why is it though, and I kick myself now for not including this in the parody, that ecstasy sounds like it has an x but doesn't? As for INXS, the first time I saw that band name on a t-shirt I thought "Who are the INKS?" lol.

[SOTM] You make X's seem almost fairly useful...Why not do one about C's? They sound like either S's or K's...Anyway, 555, this is great stuff.

SOTM - I think there's a joke about all my X's live in teXas but I wouldn't go there. It makes a good ice-breaker question, though. If you had to kill a letter, which one would you choose? I don't think pirates would like the removal of X, nor would tic-tac-toe enthusiasts.
Stuart McArthur - January 27, 2006 - Report this comment
(SOTM) - yes, ecstasy SHOULD have an x - it deserves it more than most - and yes I was once a calculus teacher, and secretly loved your horizonal-axis line (but am only now admitting it).....Pacing-wise, I also loved, "Spell EXPLORE for a big score" - this is a well-executed great idea, AGAIN, Red Ant - why don't you shove a few of those ideas my way?

Thanx Pat, Silver Power, bobpiecheese, Matthias, 2nz, Agrimorfee, Peter, Spaff, Rick, Tim, Stu, Jack, Kristof, wbmj, Johnny D, Claude, Larry, Jeff, Josh 2, Chris F. and Phil A.

Silver Power: Good idea and observation on C. I'll keep that one in mind for the future.

Peter: And what Pepsi bastardized into "Generation NeXt ". I think I too am at the tail end of Gen X.

Spaff: Yeah, didn't cover the xoxo but that too gives me an idea for a future parody.

Tim: That does make a good icebreaker question. Though I don't have any intentions of changing the alphabet if I had to choose a letter to kill X would be it. Ever notice how many prescription drugs that have X in the name get recalled or have bad side effects? Bextra, Vioxx, Zyprexa, Xanax, etc. Pirates and tic-tac-toe enthusiasts could always use a t.

Stu: 'Explore' was one of the parts I though about for a while. It's worth a minimum 66 points (16+50 for 7 letter score with no bonuses). As far as great ideas go all I can say is that for me to get them I have to write about 6-10 'average idea' parodies and one to two bad ones (which never get posted) before I run across one. Then to find the best OS for it.....

Kristof: Thank you and I still await your X parody.

wannabemustangjockey: Thanks for mentioning/noticing the internal rhyming, I went out of my way to out-do TOS on that point.

Johnny D: I'm truly flattered. However I think if any more X-Men movies are made ants won't be in them; it's too hard to move in those spandex suits.

Claude: Your X-puns have given me two news ideas, only one of which has a chance on AmIRight. ;-)
