The Lyrics

Crossing a few lines....
He's a wonderful roommate
And he pays on time
But I think he might be gay
For when he comes up from behind
He just seems to stare too long
And it's causing me distress
It's been a long time since I've seen him
Near a person in a dress

The four pictures on his wall
Are all of Garland and Monroe
And he's always singing show tunes
And has hair like Fabio
He reminds me in the bathroom
That I look good in the buff
There's a "Playgirl" upon the toilet
And he's always in a huff

He wants to cut my hair
He says he just loves Cher
He says don't do what I do
You just haven't got the flair

He invites me to these parties
Where the guests seem rather weird
All the girls have Adam's apples
And a little extra beard
I've never seen this underworld
But something isn't right
Never had so many offers
To come up and spend the night

I don't like what I see
Please get up off your knee
Don't want a date or roommate
Who has friends that hit on me

(Transforming vocal solo)

I love my brand new hair
My new pals now are bare
I now do what my friends do
Now I've picked up on the flair

I now like what I see
Please get down on your knee
And now I date my roommate
From the closet I'm now free

The "Adam's apples" and "extra beard" lines are especially great.

One of my fave Monkees tunes given a radical (ahem)change of life. Good stuff as always.

Since Melhi has the Monkee website, I always think of amusing her when I do one of these. This is one of the only songs written by Mickey Dolenz.

Sorry I didn't spot this before, Rick -- one of my Monkees faves, of course, but Mommy & Daddy (the "lies" version, not the studio forced re-write) is my very fave of the Micky-penned tunes. This song was based on a true story -- for bonus points, whose birthday party allegedly inspired this song, who are "the four kings" and who is "the being known as Wonder Girl?" (Scroll down for the answers, I'll post them as soon as twit control lets me.)

Whose birthday party allegedly inspired this song? Mama Cass.
"The four kings of EMI" referred to The Beatles
"The being known as Wonder Girl" was Samantha Juste, who later became Micky's first wife.
Thank you for playing "Useless Monkees Trivia" and for always succeeding in your quest to amuse me with your Monkees parodies. :) :)

Thanks Melhi. I did know the Beatle one, but not the others. I did another obscure Monkees song today. One that women are probably not going to like.

I would change one line to All the girls have Adam's apples and a shadow of a beard Everything else is perfect. RSG is one of my favorite Monkee songs and I think you parody is great.

Not sure but wouldn't this be a play on words for the Beatles? Beatles being from Liverpool and People of Liverpool being called Scouser's. Similarly to Londoners being called Cockneys. 4 Kings....hmmmm.
