 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"A Liberal Individual Can Stand Tall"

Parody Written by:

Anne & Phil Pflager

The Lyrics

It's time for Liberals to stand up and take credit for the good things they have done for this country!Anne & Phil
A liberal individual can stand tall
(To the tune of Okie from Muskogee by Merle Haggard)

It must be tough to walk without a backbone
It must be tough to stand without a spine
It must be tough to serve in congress
With the ditto heads that tow the party line

Chorus
I'm proud to be a liberal individual
Where common sense and reason says it all
We don't vote against our own best interest
Cuz we can read the writing on the wall

You've seen em stand and clap just like trained seals
At every lie and deception that was said
Then they go back and vote away their power
Could all these congress people be brain dead?

It's a wonder how our leaders blunder
And congress doesn't notice or complain
They expect we'll re-elect them and support their dereliction
As if they think that we don't have a brain

Last Chorus
I'm proud to be a liberal individual
Where common sense and reason says it all
We don't vote against our own best interest
Cuz we can read the writing on the wall
And a liberal individual can stand tall

I thought this was going to be a parody on liberal individuals. Title does not match content. Writer takes short-term view, fails to account for yin and yang of historical cycles where conservatism morphs into liberalism and vice versa. Suggest Ann and Phil put on about 10 years and ask themselves whatever happened to Love One Another. If government needs anything it is our prayers not our scorn. Keep writing.

A parody loaded with cliches CAN be funny, if the parody is making fun of cliche-ridden jargon. Cliche-ridden jargon seems to be the dominant voice here, however, and the result is tedious verbage that sounds like it could have been downloaded from a talk radio podcast. If you like that kind of thing, more power to you, but it's pretty unimpressive to me
