Song Parodies -> My Favorite LOTR Things
| Original Song Title: | "My Favorite Things" |
| Original Performer: | Maria in 'The Sound of Music' |
| Parody Song Title: | "My Favorite LOTR Things" |
| Parody Written by: | Arwen |
Cute little hobbits whose feet are real hairy
Running from "dragons" that aren't really scary
Smiling for Gandalf, though bad news he brings
These are a few of my favorite things
Bill, the brave pony and Samwise the gardner
Merry and Pippen who make the trip harder
Meeting Aragorn, such a manly being
These are a few of my favorite things
Ringwraiths and Arwen and one council later
Boromir looks like he might be a traiter
"Crebain from Dunland" fly in on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
In Mor-i-a!
The Balrog comes!
Gandalf falls, how sad!
But this movie's full of my favorite things
And so I don't feel so bad
In Lothlorien they climb a tree tower
Frodo is trying to fight the Ring's powers
Galadriel freaks out when she sees the Ring
These are a few of my favorite things
Leaving in boats with the Light of Earendil
Aragorn asking just what Legolas feels
Boromir losing his mind for the Ring
These are a few of my favorite things
Uruk-hai fighting while Frodo and Sam run
Merry and Pippen, who cry when they're taken
Aragorn's last speech is inspiring
These are a few of my favorite things
"Let's hunt some Orc!"
Legolas thinks
That idea's not bad
This movie is full of my favorite things
It just makes me feel so glad
Running from "dragons" that aren't really scary
Smiling for Gandalf, though bad news he brings
These are a few of my favorite things
Bill, the brave pony and Samwise the gardner
Merry and Pippen who make the trip harder

You and me both, Arwen. Well done.
Thanks, JD...
Okkie-dokkie.
Hi again, Arwen. I had to visit this song because I'm working on a version of my own--there are already 15 on this site. This was a good effort, but without mincing words, it's not actually a parody by my definition. It came close at spots, like "Boromir looks like he might be a traitor"--because you are poking fun at something by using irony (saying one thing, meaning another). An example might be something like "Uruk-hai fighting while Frodo and Sam run/I'm glad this movie is not by James Cameron". Anyhow, I hope you don't mind my deconstructive criticism-- please keep writing about what you care about (or can't stand) and have fun doing it. d;:^)
If I couldn't handle criticism, I certainly wouldn't allow people to leave comments. I probably wouldn't even put my songs up for review on a site like this...I'm a tough broad...I can take it.
I know what Bob is saying, here - this one is fun, but has so much potential to be better... come to think of it, it's actually quite similar to the original in not really trying to do much more than give a list: apart from the first couplet which is just right ("Running from dragons that aren't really scary" made me chuckle)
I'd just repeat everyone else if I made deconstructive criticism right now. Creative idea, and excellent demonstration of LotR knowledge. As a hardcore LotR fan, I enjoyed this very much.
Do Arwen singing 'I Have Confidence In Me'!
Hehe...good idea, Pickle!
Rhymes and word-stress don't quite scan in a few lines; but overall the song is well-written, thoughtful and funny. 4-5-5 from me!
I agree with Ingeborg, except I voted 5 for pacing.
Well thanks to both of you! =)

um, any Federal agents reading, who sat up at the "following me constantly" bit - she didn't mean in a stalking way, but in a protective big brother kind of way, er, heh, heh....
gee thanks Arwen, where are we going now??

LOL! Don't worry...the federal agents answer to me...and they know that when I re-write show tunes about someone...he's got to be a cool cat...
And to answer your question...TOTTM...duh...

I just thought I'd check out another "oldie"; I guess it's been around a little over a year. Anyway, it was really good; I especially liked the line where you mentioned your own name; that made me smile. Nice work; I gotta give it a 5-5-5. :)
Thanks a bunch, Serafina!
I think one of your reviews mentions this really isn't a parody. Well, perhaps not, but it is sweet, cute, and extremely adorable. I personally think that if a song is well written it should not be punished for not being funny. You wrote a wonderful song, and even though you probably will never read this. I thank you by giving you fives across.
Actually, Kim, I lurk on the latest comment board like Smeagol waiting for the hobbits on Mount Doom...just so that I don't miss lovely comments like yours. Thank you VERY much!
Latest comments section? Can I now see it? Can I now read it? (Smile a charming smile) EXCELLENT! Yes, now I will be able to monitor things from a new vantage point. Thank you Arwen for the tip! ^-^
