Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"What a Day For Some Ice Cream"

Parody Written by:

Michael McVey

The Lyrics

What a day for some ice cream
I'll buy rocky road and an Almond Joy
Or maybe a gallon of mint green
The perfect treat for a hungry boy

Thank goodness my parents are not by my side
It's a good time to take a walk outside
I'm spending the day at the Baskin Robbins store
Buying all 31 flavors and maybe more

I've was having a sweet dream
I did not wanna wake up today
'Twas in a house made of ice cream
I licked the walls the entire day

And even if the sugar makes me weigh a lot
I couldn't care less about the fat you say I got
Tomorrow I'll buy a pint of blue moon
I don't care if I look like a balloon

And you can be sure that I'm feeling alright
This gallon of vanilla will last most of the night
Tomorrow at breakfast I will confirm your fears
I'll buy enough peppermint for a thousand years

What a day for some ice cream
Custom made for a hungry boy
And now I'm eating a praline
Never got around to my Almond Joy....

Michael - Making me hungry here, man - 3 extra large scoops of "5" here for a sweet parody that fits the mood of the original song to a "T"
Guy - March 21, 2004 - Report this comment
I scream, you scream, this parody seems a 5 thing.

This is awesome 555! BTW I did a parody to Daydream too here it is http:///www.amiright.com/parody/60s/thelovinspoonful0 Incidentally, it is about ice cream

Quite a delightful parody

Very funny and very true. Mine is Ben and Jerry's New York super fudge. Too bad ice crean doesn't have anti oxodents or lower cholesterol. That melody if a perfect tune for a song about ice cream.

Melts in your mouth, not in your..... 5's

liked the "ice cream house" imagery

Sweet! Good thing I liked it, 'cause if I didn't, I'd have to call you a drip.

Alvin, congrats on reaching the 100 milestone. I've been paying attention, and you did it just a day or two after me. -- MM

Except it's singular: "Lovin' Spoonful." Not Spoonfuls.
Paul Robinson - March 22, 2004 - Report this comment
Michael M - Congrats on 100! I take a look now and then to see who might be popping up on a milestone but I missed yours.

But now that I think about it, doing an ice cream song to the SPOONful was a stroke of genius!

Good song for the SOTM competition, Michael. I read and commented before but it was great to reread it. Well done on this one.

I'm trying my hardest to stay on some semblance of a diet, and now you've got me craving Rocky Road. So good job, but curse you. Fave line: "Buying all 31 flavors and maybe more."

Oh, and Pacholek: The Lovin' Spoonful took their name from the quantity of an entirely different substance. You're on the right track with "stroke of genius." Heh heh.

I hope I'm not the only one who remembers when Baskin Robbins only had 31 flavors. Or when they had the James Bond and Moon Landing flavors - am I? You're a good writer man. However, I really want to know - was Pacholek right? Did you intentionally add the "s"? And be honest because if I find out you lied, I won't respect you in the morning. If it was done on purpose, then I'm raising the bar on your future grades (and it's pretty high now). bob

Good one M McVey! Robert, "Moon Landing flavor"? What pray tell did it tast like?
Robert J. Pagliaro - April 09, 2004 - Report this comment
I don't think I ever had it. For some reason I think it might have been cheesecake.

I hate to be the one to lower your score, but I didn't see what was exceptionally funny about this song. Definitely a 4/4/4 in my mind.

No, RJP, the "s" was an honest mistake. I thought their name was plural, and I was incorrect. -- MM

I joined amiright late in 2003. I had a quiet year or so because I moved to Peru in 2005 and took awhile to get settled in, which is probably why some people might think I'm new. Thanks for your comments, and also thanks to all the others!

(ABC3) That was pretty clever, matched the OS's laid-back style. Didn't go for easy obesity jokes either. Baskin Robbins should use it as their jingle!
Kristof Robertson - May 08, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC3W) Cute rather than LOL funny, but a wonderful match to the OS. 555
Red Ant - May 08, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC3-W) I'd leave a thoughtful comment about the parody, but you have me thinking of ice cream now. (Almond Joy ice cream? I so have to try that!). (N)ice work here, Michael.

I loved the line, "Buying all 31 flavors and maybe more". As well as the dream.

(ABC) lovely stuff (icecream too) - I had completely forgotten about this OS - great choice of OS to parody (might give it a go myself) - I liked the licking the walls line best (although the visuals are a bit gross) - 555 - and I also didn't know you'd been around so long MM
Cat - May 09, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC) Wouldn't an ice cream house melt, though? Nice job, and a definite improvement on the OS.

(ABC) Mmmm ice cream.. Great now I'm licking my computer monitor. Oh, gotta love that it's the lovin' SPOONFUL. Nice work.
