Original Song Title:

"Black is Black"

Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"Rape Is Rape"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

“Forcible rape” Ryan of old has had an expeditious epiphany/conversion. He’s now “rape is rape” Ryan.
“Rape is rape”—
a new stance taking shape.
He used to say
“forcible” in days of old.
A change of mood?
The guy-uy-uy-uy-uy’s got a new ’tude.

If he had his way,
press would back away.
What once he’d defend,
he now will amend. So-o,
a change in ’tude.”
The guy-uy-uy-uy-uy’s got a new mood.

Had to choose
to stick with old news
but now says, that’s wrong.
Now, rape he can see:
one category—
beliefs ain’t too strong.

Change is change—
he opts for less deranged.
He’s changed his mind
because it’s polling time. No-o,
the general mood
don’t sync with his Medieval attitude.

Had to choose
to stick with old news
but now says, that’s wrong.
But we all can see
old clips from TV—
the contrast is strong.

“Rape is rape”—
new stance has taken shape.
No, he won’t say
“forcible’ today. So-o,
don’t sound unglued
quite as much as he did with the old ’tude.
Likely his pollsters cried, “Dial it back, dude!”

Nice choice of OS and clever match. I dislike this song due to chronic radio overexposure in the mid-60s and the lead singer's uniquely irritating voice, like Gene Pitney on steroids. Thanks for redeeming it.
