Song Parodies -> Garden Party

Original Song Title:

"It's My Party"

Original Performer:

Lesley Gore

Parody Song Title:

"Garden Party"

Parody Written by:

Michael Pacholek

A merged parody, inspired, sort of, by John Barry's recent parody of the same title.
Garden Party
but I'll play what I want to.
Play what I want to.
Play what I want to.

You would play, too
if they had hired you!

Nobody here recognizes me now.
I don't look the same as that time.
Why are they booing me so?
I thought these fans, they were mine!

Garden Party
but I'll play what I want to.
Play what I want to.
Play what I want to.

You would play, too
if they had hired you!

Play my old songs
and they're dancing tonight.
But I'll update for a while.
If I'm not sixteen years old
they've got no reason to smile.

Garden Party
but I'll play what I want to.
Play what I want to.
Play what I want to.

You would play, too
if they had hired you!

(trumpet break)

Goody, Chuck Berry just walked through the door.
Soon, so will Elvis the King.
Oh, what a party surprise.
'Cause staying modern's my thing.

Garden Party
but I'll play what I want to.
Play what I want to.
Play what I want to.

You would play, too
if they had hired you!

Oh, whoa, whoa!
Garden Party
but I'll play what I want to.
Play what I want to.
Play what I want to.

You would play, too
if they had hired you!
The joke, of course, is that Lesley Gore was 16 when she did the original. Rick(y) Nelson was twice that age when he wrote and sang "Garden Party."
