Song Parodies -> What Not To Do In A Parody
| Original Song Title: | "My Favorite Things" |
| Original Performer: | Julie Andrews |
| Parody Song Title: | "What Not To Do In A Parody" |
| Parody Written by: | Cat |
Two of my favorite parodies of this song are Stuart McArthur's "Tunes I Wish They Could Unsing" and EmiLoca's "Songs I Cannot Parody"–so I combined the concepts and got this!
Song parodies that remove only one word
Good Crazy Frog ones are just simply unheard
Holiday fare should be quickly re-moofed
These are the songs that should never be spoofed
Anything mench'ning the two words "your mother"
Paul Simon's "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover"
(That song's atrocious) and spoofs that don't rhyme
These concoctions are just wasting my time
Egregious chatspeak takes a toll on my brain
Endlessly long ones are causing me eyestrain
"Major-Gen'ral" when it's not done by pros
These are the top of my list of no-gos
Stuff by Green Day, won't go my way
It's been overdone
And although I don't mean to quote Karen C.
Yes, we've only just begun
Spoofs of bad love songs all mushy and wilty
Songs no one knows (though of that I've been guilty)
Puzzling jargon makes me scratch my head
These are the send-ups that I wish were dead
Blatant off-pacing is really annoying
Way-too-hard tries that just come off as cloying
Should just be banished to Bad Par'dy Isle
These lame attempts make my throat clog with bile
Sophomoric jokes like armpit flatulence
On the contrary, ones that pile on pretense
If I see another Avril one, please
Someone go alert the Bad Spoof Police!
Angry bashings, whiny lashings
From that stuff I flee...
But since THIS song's been done millions of times
Then I guess the joke's...on me!

555, pretty good. I'm mainly guilty of doing song parodies to rare Nirvana songs myself(I can't help what ideas do come to me for certain songs, I love alot of the rare ones) and doing one parody to an Avril song(which is my worst paced one, due to being done with lyrics alone). No worries, though. ^___^
I gave you 5s but I think you have a few misconceptions IMHO. As far as removing (or changing) only one word, that is plagiarism, not parody and I too and sick of seeing them. "..spoofs that don't rhyme", keep in mind some songs have poor/little/no rhyme scheme in the first place. But, the biggest disagreement is with "Songs no one knows". I, for one, enjoy parodying the rarely done songs and even songs that probably no one else here has ever heard before. While not 'vote-magnets', it diversifies AmIRight greatly.
Hah, Red Ant, the only reason I've said that is before I've done parodies of unknown songs and then got kind of mad when nobody noticed them. Even though I was kind of bringing that on myself. This parody was actually kind of a blatant attempt for votes, since everyone knows this song. I'm such a little sellout. =D
Oh man. One-Guy got me. Should I feel insulted or strangely honored?
Pretty good, but it kinda slowed down at the end. As for the Ones Dork, feel strangely, definitely strangely, honored. He's a chump, and he knows it. It's like getting your first dumb joke told about you by Rush Limbaugh, and carries the same amount of weight (a lot less than he does). The question is: How do you feel about parodies of "CAT's in the Cradle"?
Believe it or not, I'm not really familiar with "Cat's In The Cradle." Perhaps I should be?
3 5's for making me sing "fla-tyooo-lance".
Agree with what Michael said but overall I liked it and it had some things that needed to be said. 455
Cat, the story-songs of the Seventies are a freakin' gold mine for this site, since they are often unintentionally funny. And Harry Chapin had a bunch of them, including "Cat's in the Cradle," "W-O-L-D," "A Better Place to Be" and "30,000 Pounds of Bananas." If you ever get the chance, pick up one of his live albums. Some guys are better onstage than in the studio, and he was one. A terrible loss for all he gave us, not the least the Amiright inspiration. There's also a song by Al Stewart called "The Year of the Cat," but I never liked it.
