| Parody Written by: | Yet Another Dutchman |
Just grabbing a handful out of Star Trek: Voyager. Sadly, all you fans out there, I did not include Kes (your mind must be boiling), Tuvok (I know it's illogical) B'Elanna Torres (please don't break my nose), the Malons (I messed up), the Borg (apologies are futile) and Species 8472 (mistake 8472). Sorry, here goes.
"there must be some kinda way out of here,"
said Chakotay to Janeway
"there's too much illusions
we can't find no Array
we got Paris to steer and fly
Neelix to dig for herbs
and will Seven of the Nine
ever be smiling at work? Hey"
"no reason to get excited,"
Cap Janeway kindly spoke
"there are many here among us
who treat this quadrant like a joke
but you know we've been through them
alternate universe days
so let us all take sick-leave now
before Doc's head inflates, hey!"
(Harry Kim's clarinet solo)
all along the Delta Quadrant
Kazons were quick to shoot
while holograms who came and went
hated servitude
outside in the cold distance
Vidiians sought out bowels
took a run from the Hirogen
and Harry Kim's mutating now
said Chakotay to Janeway

DK much about Star Trek, but I actually like parodies where the OS's exact words are used, or made to fit into, the context of the parody - nicely done Y.A.Dutchman - 555
Thanks, Stuart, eh heh... It wasn't really my intention to use the exact words so much, so I guess this was a bit of a screw-up, though.
not at all, YAD - I'm serious - I call it the "delight" factor - if the OS's line fits contextually (serendipitously) into your new version (even if you have to cunningly make it look purely serendipitous) it takes the reader by pleasant surprise, and comes across very clever (and fortunate!) - imho :-)
The spirit was willing, but the dilithium doesn't seem to have been fully crystalized.
I see, Stuart MacArthur, but I seem to have delivered a lucky shot, a ricochet. I still need to learn how to wield the "delight" factor, as you call it, as a real weapon of humor. Gotcha, Michael Pacholek. It's the whole "tribute in the form of a collage" thing that I dropped after writing this parody. I'm laying down tributes for a while to focus on real parodies.
