 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Herman's Hermits

Parody Song Title:

"I've Hedgery That's Shaped, I Have"

Parody Written by:

Merry & Pippin

The Lyrics

I've hedgery that's shaped I have
Hedgery that's shaped I have, I have
Topiaries by the windows and doors
It's been curried into petit fours
Zoology in a-plenary (plenary!)
Please prune it to a filly or a lamb (or ram!)
I've a hedgerow grand managerie
Hedgery that's shaped I have

Secateurs, tame all the furze!

I've hedgery that's shaped I have
Hedgery that shaped I have, I have
Snipped bits varied: llamas, otters and boars
Cheetahs, parrots, wolverines and more
My a-moure's not for arbories (arbories!)
You couldn't sculpt a willow or an elm (no ma'am!)
I'll not raise houseplants, or fernery
Hedgery that's shaped's my plan

(Buzzing trimmer music)

I've hedgery that's shaped I have
Hedgery that's shaped I have, I have
Visionary is my little copse shorn
See lawn: garish shrubbin' trims adorn
A bevy lush is my greenery (greenery!)
Yew shouldn't shave my holly past a gram (oh damn!)
It's ornate and grand, my hedgery
Hedgery that's shaped I have

HEDGE-Y AIN' AW-RY!

Greenery (Scenery!) Greenery (Orderly!)
Hedgery that's shaped I have, I have
Venerate the hedge's my plan!

Nice work M and P - you don't "leave" anything for the imagination (well, Phil had already used "hedge") - 555

I've decided that the initials " M. & P. " stand for " Musical Phonememeisters ". Brilliant job, hobbits! Edward Scissorhands would be so proud.

LOL - great idea for a parody. It reminded me of Hampton Court Palace, which was built for Cardinal Wolsey in about 1514 but was given to Henry VIII in 1528. The intrigue that goes with the story makes an interesting read if you’ve got an interest in English history (Meriadoc) or would bore you senseless if you haven’t (Peregrin). The gardens that came to mind weren’t planted until later though (& I don’t recall there being any wolverine or llama shapes etc).

Thanks for dropping by this one Andy - it's always been one of my favorites of our parodies, and it's nice to see a new comment.

Re: Hampton Court - I'm familiar with it's basic history as you stated above - and know there is something to do with Anne Boleyn, but I'm better versed with pre-Tudor history. Interestingly enough, there is an old Courthouse in Lelant, Cornwall, also called Hampton Court (it is now a bed & breakfast); it was owned by the Lelant Hampton family as early as the mid-1500s; said Hamptons being my ancestors via my 1865 Cornish immigrant. (How they got such an un-Cornish name eludes me, but I imagine they originally came into Cornwall from some other part of England).
