Song Parodies -> Lame It Was to Call It Nova
| Original Song Title: | "Blame It on the Bossa Nova" |
| Original Performer: | Eydie Gorme |
| Parody Song Title: | "Lame It Was to Call It Nova" |
| Parody Written by: | John A. Barry |
From the Web site where I found the lyrics: Note the woefully out-of-tune organ in the instrumental break of this song. Eydie Gorme later tried a unsuccessful sequel nine months later called "Can't Get over the Bossa Nova." Around the same time, Elvis had a related Top 10 hit, "Bossa Nova Baby" in October of the same year. The phrase "bossa nova" means "new wave" in Portuguese.
Lame It Was to Call It Nova
GM took a chance, it would catch their eye:
A midsize Chevy that, souped up, would fly.
But no Spanish class did they ever know,
Because the name translated to "don't go."
CHORUS 1:
Lame it was to call it Nova
Where Latinos dwell.
Lame it was to call it Nova. . .
Didn't sell too well.
GM just forgot to study this Romance
Language and got kicked square in the pants.
Lame it was to call it Nova—
Car that don't run.
CHORUS 2:
(Could be called "Luna")
No no, they called it Nova.
(They had the "Vega")
But no, they went with Nova.
(How 'bout "Alguna"?)
No, no, the boss said, "Nova."
(The car that don't run)
[organ break]
GM had to say to its agency:
From now on check each language family.
Good thing that they did, because it snuffed out
A planned Opel model to be named "Kraut."

CHORUS 2 (2x)
