The Lyrics

If you're a citizen of California, don't delay, get this dirtbag out of office!
Shady Davis went and stole my vote
Gonna set my taxes higher
The state is out of money and we'll crash and burn
Unless we get him fired
There's a thousand more petitions waitin' out there
And it's time to show you really care
Hurry up and sign there's no time to spare
Recall Gray Davis! Recall Gray Davis!

How I wish that there were more
Upstanding candidates than ol' Gray
'Cause Gray's just another dirty whore
Who wants to lead our state astray
Oh, come out and vote to get rid of this heel
A fortune has been lost on shady deals
All you kids come out and sign after your meals
Recall Gray Davis! Recall Gray Davis!

Recall Gray Davis with your overt actions
And your patriotic passion
Let's wipe away this stain
Recall Gray Davis! Kick him out for his crimes
Won't get off easy this time
If you sign it once
He'll never run this state again

We're got ol' Gray on the run
We're gonna have us some fun
We've got him strung on the ropes this time
If we could just unleash hell
Gray will be out and then our precious state will be fine
We've gotta give it ev'rything we've got
Lady luck please get rid of this snot
Come September second we'll be on top
Recall Gray Davis! Recall Gray Davis!
Recall, recall Gray Daviiiiiiiiiis!!!

Ahhh, Rice..I was gonna write this! lol (but I guess its fitting that you did since you live in California and I dont lol).....good job
John Jenkins - June 17, 2003 - Report this comment
Well done, Rice. It is good to see some clear thinking come out of Berkely.
Michael Pacholek - June 17, 2003 - Report this comment
Good parody, but in case you didn't notice, nearly ALL the Governors are facing raising taxes, or cutting back services, or both. Why? Blame the former Governor of Texas, and I don't mean Mark White. Gray Davis of California, liberal Democrat, is as much a victim of this as Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, supposedly Christian Republican, and Huckabee is raising taxes. And who can do the job better than Davis? Ah-nold? If you think so, I suggest you look up "Minnesota; Governors; Ventura, Jesse." Arnold, did your cutbacks lead to the loss of jobs for a million people? "Ya, but they were all bad!" California Republican are just a bunch of rich, anti-tax whiners. Of course, there's the California Democrats, which is another story (or five) altogether...

You should have called the song Total Recall of Grey Davis when Arnold Schartenegger Terminates him. Looks like Arnold's running....then you'll have a Kennedy (by marriage) running the state. I can't think of anyone in office more boring than Davis though...except maybe Lieberman.
Michael Pacholek - June 18, 2003 - Report this comment
Just remember, Adam, Lieberman's only boring six days of the week. On the seventh day, he rests.
John Jenkins - June 18, 2003 - Report this comment
Michael Pacholek is correct in claiming that not all of California's problems were caused by Gray Davis. But California is the only state whose governor claimed to save his state from an energy crisis by committing the state to some long-term contracts with energy companies and then tried to get out of the contracts less than a year later.

(ABCs) A really well done political parody with some fine rhyming. Did he actually get recalled? Being down here in the merry land of Oz does have the downside of being left out of the exciting world of electoral polling.
Agrimorfee - September 07, 2004 - Report this comment
(ABC)Too topical/political for me to enjoy, but clever chorus nonetheless.

I liked it, politics don't concern me as they are parodies!

Jake, yes, Rice and Watt and apparently most of Ca got their wish and Grey got the blues.

You say : "Being down here in the merry land of Oz does have the downside of being left out of the exciting world of electoral polling"

Australia has an upcoming election on 9 October, you know. Re your downside : "I'd like to help ya son, but you're too young to vote"!

(ABC's) Wait until we get to the 61st amendment (Demolition Man, Sylvester Stallone) and Arnold gets to be president. Just think of the parodies we can write then, that is if we can still write in 2023.
martha - September 11, 2004 - Report this comment
unfamiliar with this story too... what did he do to upset everybody????
Paul Robinson - September 11, 2004 - Report this comment
(ABC) - Good job, but the "timelyness" isn't there. Still "5-4-4" from me. Well, we've had about 8 months of "Arnold" now - not as bad as I feared, but not what I had hoped for, either...still, California has some massive budget problems and it will take a lot of heavy lifting all the way around to bring any of that into line in the forseeable future. Martha - I guess Gray's big negative was the perception he gave off as constantly being on the "Pander" for more and bigger Campaign Contributions. Also, his super-cautiousness led to charges that he lacked a "Core" to his convictions from the Democrats. Whatever his political failings I think the personal vilification went way too far...but, sadly, that's the state of political discussion and commentary over here now. It's got 100 times worse for the current presidential campaign...UGH!!
Claude Prez - September 13, 2004 - Report this comment
Always thought the title was clever; not big on politics though. Nicely done.
