Original Song Title:

"Summertime Blues"

Original Performer:

Eddie Cochrane

Parody Song Title:

"Avian Flu"

Parody Written by:

Phil Alexander

Well there's a Big Bird a-flappin'
Ain't he such a scaredy fella?
I know he isn't brave
'Cause I can see he's kinda yella
Well, he ain't a-goin' out
And he's underneath a sheet:
He said, he gonna hide
In-a Sesame-a Street

So he got all the muppets
To pass it on to
And there ain't no cure
For the avian flu

Well, there's a duck down at Disney
Ranting on at his friends-a
'Cause mice, dogs and bunnies
Never catch that influenza
But the vet has got some cream
Just in case he's feeling ill
He said, "It cost ten bucks,
And I'll put it on your bill"

Sometimes I wonder
If I'm quacking up, too
But there ain't no cure
For the avian flu

Went and bought a parrot
But on closer inspection
Reckon it's gone down
With this avian infection
Well, I took it to the shop
And the man said to me:
It's passed on, it's dead
Yeah, this parrot ceased to be

He got lovely plumage
That Norwegian Blue
But there ain't no cure
For the avian flu

Sometime I wonder
Who's next to say "Aah-choo!"
For there ain't no cure
For the avian flu

SOTM - I compared this to the OS and I think your pacing is a bit off. Interesting theme though.

(SOTM) Yes, the pacing is a bit iffy, but there were a lot of great lines in there, I especially liked the "put it on your bill" one.

SOTM - Frankly I'm more scared by the Polar Bear Syphilis Pandemic than the Avian Flu, but don't ask me about the details on that.
Phil Alexander - July 19, 2006 - Report this comment
OK, Peter...
So.....
Who's so scared of Polar Bear Syph-yphilis Pandemic
If it's worse than avian flu, I hope it ain't endemic
But I know no polar bears, so I can just take the mick
I ain't scared of Polar Bear Syph-yphilis Pandemic

(SOTM) Brilliant, Philbo! I love how you got the Norwegian Blue into it too. Sorry I missed it when you first posted. 555

(SOTM) DKTOS, and I'm unfamiliar with the 'bird flu' problem, but I did pick up the Monty Python reference. Good job.

(SOTM) Great OS to choose, and I had no problems singing this over it. Loved the "friends-a/influenza" rhyming couplet, and the "It cost ten bucks, and I'll put it on your bill" double pun the best. And, if I may to do the next part of your "Supercali..." parody:

No-bum-diddlin'-fiddlin'-polar bear guy! (x4).

PS- It may just be me, but the verses of this song seem to scan pretty well to Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird", which, given the topic, is pretty spooky.

(SOTM) "Who's next to say "Aah-choo!" was a lovely get, Phil - as was the inspired idea for the beautiful sub "aint no cure for the Avian flu" - 555
