Reincarnation - and transmigration
When you die and it is end of earthly race this turn
Reincarnation - and transmigration
return to world to learn new things and karma burn
We just believe that we would live and then but expire
I used to think that eternity is vain desire
But that was in the bad old days before I knew
When my friend met God and was told truth
Reincarnation - and transmigration
When you die and it is end of earthly race this turn
Reincarnation - and transmigration
return to world to learn new things and karma burn
I was afraid that maybe I have earned eternal Hell
But we are kids of God, that's what she wanted to tell
We are spirits in material world like Sting said
We just return back to home when we are dead
Reincarnation - and transmigration
When you die and it is end of earthly race this turn
Reincarnation - and transmigration
return to world to learn new things and karma burn

What we call "new age" is actually very old Jewish doctrine. The process of reincarnation and metempsychosis - gilgul ha-neshamot - and spiritual growth towards God is not mentioned in Tanach nor in the Canonized Gospels, but it can be found in Kabbala, and also in Gospel of Thomas. It is a process of spiritual development towards Adam Kadmon - primordial human being. We wanted to be like God, so we got the chance, and to do so we came here in the material world to become mortals and grow for eventual Heaven.

I always thought reincarnation meant restocking your canned milk supply--5's
Most informative. To follow up on AFW's thought: reincarnation comes from contented karma.
John, according to Jewish doctrine, reincarnation is basically a voluntary process - we are all here as volunteers. The karma gained just sets the starting points in which we come here but does not necessarily obligate reincarnation. My friend's NDE basically validated that concept. Gilgul ha-neshamot means "wheel (cycle) of the souls".
