Song Parodies -> Alanis, Darlin'
| Original Song Title: | "Spanish" |
| Original Performer: | Ben E. King |
| Parody Song Title: | "Alanis, Darlin'" |
| Parody Written by: | Michael Pacholek |
Just saw Alanis Morrisette's take on "My Humps." Weird Al, move over. This was a regular riot. Alanis is not the kind of performer who would do that kind of song, and she sings it as a slow, mournful piano ballad. I swear, I am not making this up.
(instrumental opening)
Laughter, it rose, Alanis, darlin'.
I cracked up to Alanis, darlin'.
It is a freaky tune.
Makes me dance like a loon.
But Morrisette came on and soon
her video was streaming.
It made me laugh so hard
from that Canadian bard
my achihng heart is dreaming.
Laughter, it rose, Alanis, darlin'.
I cracked up to Alanis, darlin'.
With Black Eyed Peas-type soul.
You played the Fergie role
I started laughing and then I lost control.
I have to beg your pardon.
And if you won't just tease
you should perform that "Peas"
at The Garden.
(instrumental break)
And if you won't just tease
you should perform that "Peas"
at The Garden.
(Laughter, it rose, Alanis, darlin'.)
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la!
(Laughter, it rose, Alanis, darlin'.)
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la!
(Laughter, it rose, Alanis, darlin'.)
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la!
(repeat 'til fade)

I'm serious: If you haven't seen it yet, you GOT to see this.

The OS's title should read "Spanish Harlem." It was Ben E.'s first single after leaving the Drifters, 1961. Written by Jerry Lieber & Mike Stoller. Memorably covered in a hopped-up version by Aretha Franklin in 1970. (Pretty much the reverse of what happened with "My Humps."
you make me laugh...alanis makes me HORSElaugh...for obvious reasons
