I don't like this letter--
Academic doom
I read it in the hallway,
Outside the classroom.

References my indifference to checking
My work before it's sent in.
PS 512,
My grade school.

I'll bring this report card home to parents,
But with a slight amendment--
The "F" changed into
Something new.

As I changed this letter,
I knew I bent the rules.
Don't want to spend another
Six years in this school.

Now I like the letter,
Although it's a ruse.
My folks will like it better;
They'll be most enthused.

But it stirs up a parental tempest.
They ken it's a palimpsest
"BS!" They see through
What I do.

I'm so screwed!
