Parody Song Title:

"Fun of a Preachin' Man"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

I dedicate this to Tim Mayfield, who inspired it, and all the all the "Oners" who have those "taboo" issues
Timmy May was a preachin' man
And when discussions would arise he'd write a view
In America that's freedom talkin'
It was Timmy's right, he ain't balkin'
And though not all buy what he's hawkin'
Although so many here have tried
Just don't take the other side

The sure-fire way to get castigated
Makin' fun of a preachin' man
The sure-fire way to get folks irated
Making fun of a preachin' man
Yes it is, yes it is
Oh, yes it is

Writing well isn't always easy
You think it's not hard, you try
When they start one-slammin on me
I know I've touched a nerve of someone uptight
I love to push that button on some dick-bite
It's more fun being humorous than right

The sure-fire way to get castigated
Makin' fun of a preachin' man
The sure-fire way to get folks irated
Making fun of a preachin' man
Yes it is, yes it is
Oh, yes it is

Don't mock a religion
Or you just might get despised
Fielding hisses from them on the sly
It's a crime to make rhyme
“Faith” is past the borderline
Searching for a gun that's smoking
Looking for offense where there is joking

The sure-fire way to get undervoted
Makin' fun of a preachin' man
The sure-fire way to get oft-misquoted
Making fun of a preachin' man
Yes it is, yes it is
Oh yes it is

Rick, let me be the first to vote 5's on this one. Poignantly put and well stated. A problem for many defenders of 'religion', since pride and anger are not Christian traits. They may state it is 'holy anger' but it is not. It is judging one another.

Most of the regulars here know than I'm not Christian, and that I've written a couple of songs against fundamentalists like Phelps. Still, I shouldn't let my own beliefs get in the way of judging this song fairly AS a song: you chose a good original for your topic, paced it well and had a thoughtful message. 5-5-5.

Fundamentalists' views are like the name of the song's original singer: Dusty. And dead. But then, the great Dusty Springfield was not someone they'd like, being gay and all. (Surprised me when I found out.)

Poking fun doesn't make one mental. But I've seen some arguments (comments on this site) pro and con on this subject that make me question the mental stability of the submitters. I've read, commented and voted on Tim's parody. I thought it was well done. And you are so right with this parody, Rick. Take the opposing stand and it's like New Years or the Fourth of July - fireworks!

555 for you, I completely agree that is you make fun of the wrong things you will get slammed, even if the message is true or ends up positive. BTW, as one said I'm not Christian either, more of a skeptic of the 3 most popular theories out there: God, Evolution, and The Big Bang. There I said it, now Im assured the dubious honor of having the worst overall rating of any poster in this great websites history. As they say though, better to get pissed off rather than pissed on.
